A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities requiring certification of compliance with environmental regulations as well as collecting data for use by Federal, State, Municipal, and other government agencies along the US coastline.
Primary Function:
AIS is seeking a Fisheries Representative to facilitate communication between offshore wind developers and fisheries stakeholders during the construction phase of Revolution 1 Wind in Rhode Island on behalf of the RI Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC). This project has an estimated 6-month duration. If you are a commercial fisherman, fisheries liaison officer, or in other related maritime professions this may be the role for you.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Mitigate negative interactions between offshore wind developers and maritime users (recreational, charter, and commercial fishermen)
- Increase overall awareness among stakeholders in fisheries and offshore wind
- Communicate with CRMC, AIS, and Ørsted for project updates that could have potential impacts on fishermen operations
- Current timeline of operations and vessel activity
- Delays
- Outreach to fishermen
- Advise moving fixed gear in the event that it impedes construction activity (and could result in damage to gear)
- Raise awareness of the offshore wind process (permitting, town halls, etc.) so that they may become more involved
- Solicitation of offshore wind opinions to influence changes leading to synergy between the two industries
- Research and execute effective methods of information dissemination
- Conflict resolution
• Assist fishermen in reimbursement process when fishing operations are interrupted
