About the Job
Great Western Building Systems is in the process of moving its manufacturing plant to Grand Junction, and we are looking to expand our team. We need entry-level and experienced workers for the following jobs: Welding, Fitting, Machine Operation, Material Handling, Forklift Driving, and Painting. This team will initially work to bring the facility online and then will manufacture, paint and load pre-engineered steel buildings.
If you have experience with fabrication and welding in a production environment, we would like to meet you. Some fitting and welding experience is desired.
If you have experience driving forklifts, loading/offloading materials, painting, or operating machinery, that is a plus. We are also willing to train the right candidates.
Fitting work includes cutting, bending, drilling, welding, and painting of materials and is required to operate forklifts, cranes, and other steel fabrication equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensures that fabrication is completed accurately, timely, and in a safe and efficient manner. Performs the appropriate calculations when cutting/fabricating materials to maximize product usage and limit the amount of waste or drop.
- Set up and operate welding machines based on shop floor jobs and welding specifications.
- Read and interpret drawings and prints to determine the specific welding requirements.
- Calculate and use charts to convert decimals to fractions as well as the ability to use tape measures and angle gauges
- Knowledge of production processes, quality control, and other production techniques that will maximize the effective manufacturing of our products
- Must be able to work in a culture of continuous improvement, where accountability for the work done is expected. Ensures that work is accomplished safely and meets efficiency and quality standards
- Detail-oriented and able to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, and blueprints
- Produce fabricated steel products in a timely manner while maintaining a high quality of workmanship.
- Ensures a safe work area in compliance with Company and OSHA policies. Keeps the fabrication shop near and orderly.
- Maintains all equipment in good working condition.
- Processes paperwork in accordance with Company policies.
- Keeps Supervisors informed of shortages, overages, or damaged materials.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- The ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening is required
- Previous fitting/welding experience a plus or
- Other manufacturing experience or
- Machine operations, forklift work, or painting experience
- Detail focused
- Learns Quickly
- Ability to stand, walk, use hands to handle, tools, reach with arms, and talk and hear in a noisy environment.
- Must be able to kneel, stoop, or crouch.
- Needs to be able to regularly lift and move 25 lbs, and occasionally lift and move objects weighing as much as 100 lbs.
The work environment is primarily indoors and will, at times, be exposed to natural weather elements such as heat, cold, sunlight, darkness, wind, rain, lightning, snow, and dust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
