Fixed Equipment Engineer - Dakota Staffing Solutions

Job Description: 

This position assists with the continuous safe and compliant operations of the plant's fixed equipment. This is accomplished by maintaining basic technical competence in fixed equipment American Society of Mechanical Engineers and American Petroleum Institute (ASME/API) codes, design, application, metallurgy, risk-based inspection, condition monitoring, troubleshooting, repair, modifications, and upgrades. 

The Maintenance Engineering department provides subject matter expertise in Rotating Equipment, Fixed Equipment, and Inspection to effectively improve asset availability, optimize maintenance expenses, ensuring compliance and support plant wide reliability improvement efforts, which results in enhanced production and safety.

* Provides support to Maintenance regarding repairs to piping and fixed equipment and oversees complex equipment repairs that are impacting production; this may also include oversight on jobs completed by outside contractors.

* Assists with the design of encapsulating devices for In-service welding permits and reviews vendor calculations for engineering clamping devices.

* Provides support for metallurgical and corrosion concerns throughout the plant.

* Assists with maintaining asset spec data in Asset Suite and APM, and ensures all repair documentation, recommendations, and inspection reports are linked accordingly.

* Reviews and approves all Mill Test reports.

* Assists with setting up bill of materials for fixed equipment assets and recommends min/max stocking levels.

* Participates in developing and/or revising inspection strategies for fixed equipment based on performance.

* Assists in Engineering Design Package reviews to ensure code compliance and to address reliability and maintainability factors.

* Assists in creating and revising plant procedures to maintain fixed equipment mechanical integrity.

* Participates in the checkout/acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment installations.

* Assists in specifying new equipment, equipment component standardizations, and contributing subject matter expertise to determine life cycle costs for new projects.

* Conducts equipment bad actor analyses and root cause failure analysis on equipment failures.

* Apply ASME/API Fitness for Service standards (API570) and facilitates evaluations performed/contracted by outside companies.

* Reports on process safety and mechanical integrity concerns to plant management.

* Attends all scheduled safety, training and department meetings as required; also, occasionally conducts safety meetings.

* Other duties as assigned

This position maintains internal communications within Maintenance Engineering as well as with Process Operations, Maintenance, Planning, Procurement, Environmental, and Safety & Industrial Hygiene. External communications include consultants and vendors.

Job Qualifications: 

* To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have broad knowledge of engineering analysis techniques and problem-solving skills normally acquired through the completion of a four-year degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited mechanical engineering program. Proficiency with ASME Section I (boilers) and VIII (pressure vessels), B31.1 (boiler code piping), and B31.3 (process piping) codes and API 510 (pressure vessels), 570/571 (piping), 650/653 (tanks), and 580/581 (risk-based inspection) standards is preferred. The ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are required. 

* This is a Department of Transportation (DOT) (PHMSA) qualified position. 

* A valid driver’s license is required.
