Job Highlights:

Location: Evanston, IL
Compensation: $20 - $25 per game
Availability: Saturday 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM Sunday 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Position Overview:
We are looking for Flag Football Referees in our Evanston location for our Winter Leagues season beginning October 26th! Referees are responsible for enforcing the rules of flag football games, ensuring the game is played fairly, safely, and in accordance to TOCA standards. This role requires quick decision-making, attention to detail, and an understanding of the game’s rules.
Responsibilities:
Game Management:
- Oversee and manage flag football games to ensure they are played in a safe and fair manner.
- Start and stop the game clock as necessary, ensuring accurate timekeeping.
- Maintain the pace of the game by promptly signaling the start of plays and enforcing time limits between plays.
Enforcement of Rules:
- Apply the rules of flag football consistently and fairly to all players.
- Identify rule violations (e.g., flag guarding, illegal contact, offsides) and assess appropriate penalties.
- Ensure that all players are wearing appropriate safety gear (flag belts, no cleats, etc.).
- Resolve disputes or player/coach protests by making decisive rulings based on the rules of the game.
Communication:
- Communicate clearly with players, coaches, and other referees about fouls, penalties, and other game-related decisions.
- Use hand signals to indicate penalties, downs, and other relevant actions to spectators, players, and coaches.
- Inform captains and coaches of any disciplinary actions taken against players (e.g., warnings, ejections).
Safety:
- Monitor the field for any potential safety hazards (e.g., uneven ground, debris) and ensure it is cleared before the game begins.
- Stop the game if a player is injured or if a safety issue arises, and coordinate with medical staff or other officials as needed.
Pre-Game and Post-Game Duties:
- Inspect field conditions and equipment before the game to ensure everything is in compliance with regulations.
- Meet with coaches and team captains to review the rules, clarify any concerns, and conduct the coin toss before the game.
- File game reports after each match, including scores, incidents, and any notable occurrences (e.g., injuries, protests).
Qualifications & Experience:
- Knowledge and understanding of the specific rules and regulations of flag football.
- Previous experience officiating or refereeing in a league setting is preferred.
- Strong verbal communication skills to remain calm under pressure.
