Ingram Barge Company, the leading carrier on America’s inland waterways, is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the team as a Fleet Dispatcher in our Houston, TX office. This position will report to the Lead Fleet Dispatch and responsible for safely and efficiently designing and expediting tows, coordinating the movement of barges in the fleet, scheduling staff, and coordinating vessel refueling. Successful Dispatchers are detail oriented and have strong organizational, logistical, and analytical skills. They can evaluate situations, make decisions quickly and move on to the next item on the agenda. The ideal candidate works well across teams, is willing to learn and grow, and exercises good judgment.
What you’ll be doing:
- Specializing in tow planning, while satisfying criteria such as tow safety, fleet efficiency, and customer services’ needs
- Ensuring appropriate communication to the Fleet Dispatch, Logistics, Barge Maintenance, Engineering, Tugs, Linehaul Operators and Vessel Operations teams of important changes, such as fleet conditions, tow diagrams, drafts, etc.
- Receiving inbound diagrams for future planning and confirm outbound diagrams with appropriate parties
- Ensuring accuracy within TowWorks
- Working closely with the Fleet Dispatch, Logistics, Barge Maintenance, Engineering, Tugs, Linehaul Operators and Vessel Operations teams on strategic planning approaches
- Responsible for overall performance of respective fleet (ensure successful turn times, barges in fleet, barges to dock, all around efficiency and communication with customers, etc.)
- Ensuring accuracy of fleeting shifts and times to coincide with billing in TowWorks
- Providing coverage during any absences
- Ensuring orders received are recorded and communicated at watch change
Supporting department activities with regular and prompt attendance
QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Two years dispatching, customer service or vessel experience preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills
- Highly organized and detailed oriented with the ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously
- Knowledge of logistical principles a plus
- Acute attention to detail
- Strong organizational, logistical, and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work flexible work hours to accommodate business needs
- Adaptable to changing situations
