NDDOT Starting Salary: $5,354 per month
*This position qualifies for a Regional Pay Differential payment of $800 per month.
Summary of Work
As a Fleet & Equipment Technician III, you will be performing the following duties:
Heavy Duty Truck Repair & Service - Engines repair, transmission repair, electrical systems repair, hydraulic systems repair, exhaust systems repair, driveline and, install department equipment, test drive vehicles, show transportation technicians what to check for and maintain on the preventative maintenance schedule including checking fluid levels, lights & tires as needed.
Industrial & Heavy Highway Equipment Service & Repair - Mowing tractors, mowers and associated equipment repair, motor graders repair, front-end loaders repair, bituminous distributors repair, rollers repair, spreaders repair, other highway maintenance equipment repair.
Light Duty Vehicles (cars, pickups) Service & Repair - Engine tune-ups, engine repair, repair, glass replacement, exhaust system replacement, minor body repair, transmission maintenance and repair, brake repair and overhaul, electrical system trouble shooting and repair, chassis and suspension repair, engine computer and emission control troubleshooting and repair, test driving vehicles, install equipment on new vehicles, includes checking fluid levels, lights and tires as needed.
Equipment Repair Orders, Time Sheets & Other Paperwork - Use EMS system in computer to accurately complete repair orders, fill out time sheets & record time charges to units worked on, read & adhere to all department memos and directives, effectively read and use service and parts manuals to help with difficult repairs.
Housekeeping & Shop Safety - Maintain clean and neat work area, help in keeping shop clean, help with snow removal around buildings & yard, help with other outside yardwork for other season, be aware of chemical safety and read material safety data sheets for chemicals used in shop.
Small Equipment Service and Repair - Lawnmower repair, weed eater repair, chain saw repair, air blower repair, water pump repair, miscellaneous building repair, shop equipment and tool repair.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position as a Fleet and Equipment III, you must have a Class B Driver License, completed a two-year curriculum in automotive or diesel/industrial equipment technology, and 2 years of work experience performing duties similar in type and complexity as those listed in the summary of work.
Completion of a three-year master technology program and one year of work experience performing duties listed in the summary of work can substitute for the 2-year curriculum and 2 years of experience.
Work experience performing duties similar in type and complexity to those to be performed on vehicles and equipment like those to be serviced may be substituted for the educational requirement of the basis of one year of work experience for one year of education.
Successful applicant must provide required tools on the date of hire. List of required tools is available from any district office.
Position may require work after hours, on weekends, and holidays during road and weather emergencies; demonstrated ability to function around vehicular and maintenance traffic. May be required to plow snow. Safety training will be provided.
As determined by the district engineer or division director, employees will at times be required to report to work within 30 minutes in situations involving emergency, storm, or public safety concerns. Employees with residence outside the 30 minute requirement must make appropriate arrangements to make themselves available during such conditions.
Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test, job function testing, reference check and driving records check.
