We are seeking a Fleet Mechanic, also known as a Fleet Maintenance Technician or Fleet Service Technician, is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of a company's fleet of vehicles and equipment. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the fleet while minimizing downtime and maximizing the lifespan of the vehicles.
Responsibilities
Vehicle Maintenance and Repairs:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid checks, to keep vehicles in optimal condition.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, both electrical and mechanical, in vehicles and equipment.
- Repair and replace faulty parts or components to restore vehicles to their operational state.
- Conduct preventive maintenance to prevent breakdowns and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Fleet Inspections:
- Conduct regular inspections of fleet vehicles to identify potential problems and address them proactively.
- Maintain records of inspections and repairs, documenting all work performed on each vehicle.
Emergency Repairs:
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and accidents promptly to provide on-site repairs and assistance if required.
- Handle urgent repair requests to minimize downtime and disruptions in fleet operations.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all maintenance and repairs performed on fleet vehicles.
- Keep track of inventory and ensure that necessary parts and supplies are readily available for repairs.
Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines when performing repairs or maintenance tasks.
- Ensure that all vehicles in the fleet are compliant with local, state, and federal regulations.
Equipment and Tool Maintenance:
- Properly maintain and care for all tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance process.
- Report any faulty equipment or tools that need replacement or repair.
Training and Development:
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in automotive technology and repair techniques.
- Participate in training programs to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with other team members, such as drivers, supervisors, and fleet managers, to coordinate maintenance schedules and prioritize repairs.
Required Qualifications/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; formal automotive technician training or certification is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Fleet Mechanic or Automotive Technician.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
- Ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of mechanical and electrical issues.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Physical strength and stamina to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on maintaining accurate records.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license (if required for test-driving vehicles).
Physical Requirements
- Able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, and climb.
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Able to work on a ladder for up to 8 hours.
- Able to work in confined spaces.
