This positing is for Proactive Recruiting. Candidates from this posting will have the opportunity to take the CAST and Auto-Mechanics assessments. If successful, they will then be entered into a pool of candidates to be selected from when openings are available.
Hourly Rate - $42.12 - $51.07
Shifts: PM 3:30pm-2:00am and OWL 9:30pm-7:30am
DUTIES:
+ Under direct but not constant supervision, to do a general range of repair and maintenance work on automotive equipment, construction equipment and power take-off driven equipment; to repair garage equipment as required; to direct the work of another Automotive Mechanic or Fleet Services employee of lesser grade; and do similar and less skilled work as required.
+ In this connection to perform details of work, such as: Overhaul motors, transmissions, and differentials.
+ Analyze motors.
+ Overhaul and adjust brake systems.
+ Repair, overhaul and align vehicle front end and steering systems.
+ Repack, adjust, or replace bearings.
+ Repair and overhaul fuel systems and cooling systems.
+ Install, repair and overhaul electrical systems.
+ Welding.
+ Make minor fender and body repairs.
+ Paint or touch up.
+ Make modifications on equipment as required.
+ Install crew cab glass.
+ Repair or replace suspension systems.
+ Repair or replace tires.
+ Balance wheels.
+ Replace or repair components of construction equipment and power take-off driven equipment.
+ Maintain small powered equipment.
+ Attend garage gasoline service station, as required. Make service calls.
SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ For proper care and use of tools, materials, and shop equipment.
+ For responding to calls quickly, and restoring equipment to service in a minimum of time.
+ For working with precision when making close adjustments.
+ For close careful inspection and adjustment of equipment for the protection of operators and equipment.
+ For following safe working practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Graduation from high school or successful completion of a recognized high school equivalency examination.
+ Successful completion of an approved educational program in automotive maintenance or its equivalent preferred and shall have satisfactorily performed for two years in an automotive maintenance facility in a repair technician classification or its equivalent.
+ An additional five years of satisfactory performance in an automotive maintenance facility in a repair technician classification will be considered in lieu of completion of an approved educational program.
+ Must be able to meet and deal with people, be willing to work alone for considerable periods, be active and able-bodied and have average physical strength and endurance.
+ Must be a competent operator of equipment and be able to qualify for chauffeur’s license. Must successfully complete all testing requirements related to this classification. Must obtain and maintain a valid class (A) C.D.L. license with Tanker endorsement.
+ Must pass the Construction Skilled Trades (CAST) aptitude test and written automotive mechanic exam.
Local 1439 Fleet Technician Journeyman IA2801 Pay Scale
Step (1) — Pass Fleet Services Mechanic Skills Test $42.12
Step (2) — 6 Months – Aerial Inspection Test $43.93
Step (3) — 12 Months – 3 ASE Test $46.46
Step (4) — 24 Months – 3 ASE Test $48.05
Step (5) — 36 Months – 2 ASE Test $51.07
Additional Shift work premium of $1.45 per hour for those working the PM or OWL shift. Technicians can advance through these steps and achieve Step 5 pay within one year by passing the Fluid Power Certification and acquiring ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Certification status. IA2801 Fleet Technician Journeyman working PM or OWL shift at a step one will start at $43.57 per hour (includes shift premium). Within one year and one acquiring all the above certifications and working the PM or OWL shift one will top out at $52.52 per hour.
Vacation:
0 to 1 year prorated based on start date
1 to 6 years of service 2 weeks of vacation
6 to 15 years of service 3 weeks of vacation
15 to 20 years of service 4 weeks of vacation
20 to 30 years of service 5 weeks of vacation
30 or more years of service 6 weeks of vacation
