Florida Capital Reporter
WINK News is Southwest Florida’s news leader and is committed to delivering accurate and timely news coverage to our community. We are currently seeking a talented and passionate Reporter/MMJ to report from Tallahassee, Florida, and cover state government and politics at the capital.
As a Reporter/MMJ focused on state government & politics, you will be responsible for researching, reporting, and presenting news stories related to the political landscape in Florida's capital, Tallahassee. This role requires a deep understanding of state government & politics—particularly as it impacts Southwest Florida. The top candidate must have excellent reporting skills, and the ability to produce high-quality multimedia content for television, digital platforms, and social media. You must live and work in Tallahassee.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Research and Reporting:
- Stay informed about state politics, legislative developments, and key political figures in Tallahassee.
- Generate story ideas daily and conduct thorough research to gather accurate information on how legislative and political news in Tallahassee impacts Southwest Florida.
- Conduct interviews with government officials, lawmakers, and political experts.
2. Content Creation:
- Produce compelling news reports, live broadcasts, and video packages that inform and engage our audience.
- Write well-structured news scripts and articles for various platforms, including TV, web, and social media.
-Candidate able to write for print, while not a requirement, are especially welcome to apply.
3. On-Air Presence:
- Deliver on-air reports confidently and professionally.
- Present complex political topics in an easy-to-understand and engaging manner.
4. Multimedia Skills:
- Operate camera and audio equipment for field reporting.
- Edit video and audio content using industry-standard software.
5. Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the news team, producers, and editors to ensure accurate and timely news coverage.
6. Community Engagement:
- Attend political events and legislative sessions.
- Foster relationships with sources and community members.
7. Ethical Standards:
- Follow journalistic ethics and principles, including accuracy, fairness, and objectivity.
- Comply with company policies and standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a reporter or journalist, preferably in political reporting.
- Strong writing and storytelling skills.
- Excellent on-camera presence and communication skills.
- Proficiency in video editing software and camera operation.
- Knowledge of Florida state politics and legislative processes is a plus.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for news assignments.
- Commitment to upholding the highest journalistic standards.
