- JOB SUMMARY
- Prepare foods and/or serve food and beverages to patients and customers. Assist in cleaning work areas, equipment, and utensils and collection of garbage. Perform cashier duties.
- DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assembles and delivers food trays to medical center patients and meals on wheels clients. Serves food to cafeteria customers and patients. Prepares food according to written instructions. Processes menus and diet orders. Reads and interprets production orders, recipes and written directions to prepare food. Selects and manipulates dishes and utensils to portion menu items. Portions and measures menu items accordingly to production schedule or menu stated amounts. Arranges items on trays quickly, accurately and neatly according to customer request. Prepares food items such as entrees, vegetables, sandwiches, salads, soups and beverages. Places servings in blender to make foods for soft or liquid diets. Collects cart containing soiled meal trays, pushes cart to the kitchen. When collecting a soiled tray cart, always leaves a clean cart on the nursing unit.
- Sorts and removes food and paper from soiled trays, dishes and flatware and places dishes into dish dollies and carts. Inspects all work surfaces and equipment to assure cleanliness and safe and proper operation of equipment. Disassembles and reassembles parts of equipment for cleaning and proper operation. Immerses, scrubs, washes, wipes and manipulates equipment, parts, utensils and dishes to clean. Follows written safe food handling procedures. Washes hands frequently, handles dishes, equipment and flatware to avoid food contact surface contamination. Selects appropriate cleaning and sanitizing solutions, follows safety precautions when using hazardous chemicals, wears goggles, gloves, masks or other protective equipment according to written instructions. Sweeps and mops floors. Collects garbage, lifts garbage into dumpster, transports and loads into compactor. Pushes button to operate compactor. Properly wraps, dates, labels and initials food items for storage. Counts, matches items with written list to inventory stock, orders supplies as needed and places items in assigned areas to organize stock. Reads thermometer to measure temperatures of food and equipment to assure safe holding temperatures. Accurately counts money to refund correct change to calculate cash register receipts. Cleans/sanitizes and operates all of food preparation, food contact surfaces and ware washing equipment.
- Prepares reports for cash register transactions. Reads and records totals shown on cash register tape and verifies against cash on hand.
- Justifies purchase order to package slips or invoices to receive food and supplies, when assigned. Stores and rotates stock. Cleans and organizes walk-in refrigerators, freezers and dry storage areas. Sweeps and mops floors.
- EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS

- WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat.
- Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme cold.
- Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Frequently exposed to sharp knives, blades and other sharp implements.
- Required to wear rubber soled shoes as precaution to prevent slips and falls.
- Routinely uses a computer.

- Frequently required to move about throughout the department and facility.
- Constantly required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
