Position Summary:
The Food Service Worker plays an essential role in delivering timely and nutritious meals to patients, visitors, and staff while upholding a high standard of cleanliness and safety in the kitchen and dining areas. This role involves a variety of meal service tasks, including assembly, final preparation, and dish-washing as needed, all with a focus on quality service and food safety practices. The Food Service Worker acts with compassion, respecting the dignity and unique attributes of each person they serve, embodying the mission and values of UNC Health Appalachian.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble, prepare, and deliver meals promptly to patients, visitors, and staff.
- Maintain cleanliness in kitchen and dining areas to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
- Practice safe food handling in line with UNC Health’s food safety standards.
- Provide excellent customer service, contributing positively to patient, visitor, and team member experiences.
- Assist with dishwashing and other kitchen tasks as needed.
Position Qualifications:
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Experience: Previous experience in a food service or healthcare setting is preferred.
- Skills: Knowledge of food safety regulations, basic computer skills, and ability to work well in a team setting.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift, push, pull, or transfer over 50 pounds; prolonged standing, walking, bending, and other physical activities.
Working Conditions:
- Regular exposure to food preparation areas, requiring frequent bending, squatting, twisting, and reaching.
- Flexible work hours, including weekends and holidays, with continuous standing or walking for shifts lasting up to 8 hours.
