Job Description
A food service worker performs a variety of tasks involved in food preparation, service, and sanitation within a dining establishment. They are responsible for ensuring the efficient and smooth operation of the kitchen and dining areas while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
Responsibilities
Food Preparation:
- Assist in preparing ingredients for cooking, such as washing and chopping vegetables, portioning meats, and assembling salads or sandwiches.
- Follow recipes and portion sizes to ensure consistent food quality.
Cooking and Serving:
- Cook food items according to established recipes and customer orders, using various cooking methods (e.g., grilling, frying, baking).
- Serve food to customers either at a counter, buffet-style, or at tables, ensuring correct portions and presentation.
- Handle customer inquiries, take orders accurately, and provide recommendations when requested.
Cleaning and Sanitizing:
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and equipment according to sanitation guidelines.
- Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, including countertops, cooking surfaces, and storage areas.
Stocking and Inventory Management:
- Monitor inventory levels of food and supplies, restock items as needed, and rotate stock to ensure freshness.
- Notify supervisors of low inventory or equipment issues.
Adherence to Health and Safety Regulations:
- Follow proper food handling procedures to prevent food contamination and ensure food safety.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations and guidelines, including wearing appropriate attire and using protective equipment as required.
Teamwork and Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with kitchen staff, servers, and other team members to ensure efficient operation of the food service establishment.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors to coordinate tasks and resolve issues.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a food service or kitchen environment preferred.
- Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques and cooking methods.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items (e.g., trays of food, bags of supplies).
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Education and Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- On-the-job training provided; additional culinary or food safety certification may be beneficial.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy loads.
Pay $18-21/hour
Monday-Friday
Weekends required
