Summary: Foreman/ Lead Carpenter – Remote, AK
Supervise work crews on various miscellaneous projects under the supervision of the Superintendent. Responsible for supervision, direction, and safety of work crews during the construction process. Work activities will also include operating various pieces of equipment, including loaders, forklifts, skidsteers, manlifts, and pickups with trailers.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for supervision, direction, and safety of work crews.
Read and interpret plans and specifications, read and correct shop drawings, and utilize/maintain project schedule.
• Adherence to the UICC Policies and Procedures including Shareholder employment opportunities.
• Maintain worker safety and an accident-free work environment in strict compliance with OSHA rules.
• Perform Quality Control functions.
• Perform equipment operation as directed by the site superintendent
• Additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
Ability to be responsible for supervision, direction, and safety of work crews in all aspects of commercial construction.
Must have the ability to read and interpret plans and specifications, read and correct shop drawings, and utilize/maintain project schedule.
• Ability to administer the UICC Policies and Procedures, including Shareholder employment opportunities.
• Must be committed to worker safety and an accident free work environment and in strict compliance with OSHA rules.
• Ability to perform Quality Control functions.
• Must have operator’s proficiency on a variety of equipment including, but not limited to, loaders, forklifts, skidsteers, manlifts, and pickups with trailers.
• Perform independently without direct supervision.
• Ability to operate basic construction equipment, such as forklifts and loaders.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to perform duties and operation of tools of the trade in strict compliance with OSHA rules.
• Work well within a team setting.
Qualifications
Required Experience:
- High School Diploma/or Equivalent.
- Minimum of Five (5) years of related experience.
- Must possess and maintain current driver's license.
Preferred Experience:
- CDL license preferred, but not required.
- 2+ years of Alaska remote construction.
Physical Demands:
Strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing, heavy lifting and carrying.
• Working on slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Working on ladders and scaffolding.
• Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
• Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, moving materials, and manipulating materials.
• Must be able to have good range of motion.
• Coordinate the movement of eyes, hands, feet, and fingers to complete assigned tasks.
• Able to utilize adequate visual skills.
• Able to utilize adequate hearing skills.
• Ability to work at heights above 12’ while working from ladders, scaffolding, and/or man lifts.
• Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.
• Be able to reach in all directions.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
• When operating equipment, subject to constant jarring of body due to jerking movement of equipment and operating on uneven surfaces.
• Must be able to sit in the operator’s seat of equipment and safely reach all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc. required to safely operate the equipment.
• Must be able to sit in the operator’s seat of equipment and have an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows and/or mirrors.
Environmental Conditions:
Loud noises, and/or extremes of heat or cold.
• The work often requires wearing protective gear that may be uncomfortable.
• The nature of the work environment may produce moderate levels of stress.
• Work environment is that of a construction site.
• Job site will contain light to heavy equipment, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools.
• People standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking.
• Applicant may be subject to environmental conditions of extreme cold, noise exposure, constantly changing work environment, irregular surfaces, slippery surfaces, moving equipment, open excavations, temporary structures, and general construction hazards.
