Forestry Technician - Omaha Tribe of Nebraska

About the Job
Under the guidance of the Wildlife and Parks Director, the Forestry Technician will gain practical experience in forest management. Their primary role will involve working outdoors to conduct research, develop strategies, protect, preserve, and maintain the forests, grasslands, and hills surrounding the Omaha Indian Reservation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following:
- Perform tree-related tasks such as cutting, planting, pruning, and measuring;
- Maintain designated areas by cutting grass and weeds;
- Assist with general field work activities;
- Report fallen or rotting trees;
- Conduct landscaping duties in recreational areas;
- Keep a log of daily activities;
- Support environmental studies;
- Enforce campground and recreational area rules and regulations;
- Identify potential fire hazards;
- Perform additional assigned duties as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position requires a wide range of general labor, therefore individuals must lift at least 80 pounds of more; must understand and be aware of safety rules; must be able to stand for a long period of time.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Must possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- At least one (1) year experience in similar forestry work.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- Possess a valid Driver's License, must be insurable to obtain Government License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and/or ABILITIES:
- Must have good oral and written communication skills.
Must have the ability to give direction as well as receive.
Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screen.
