About the Job
Easterseals Iowa offers foundation practicums/internships for MSW and BSW students. This is an ideal opportunity for students seeking experience in mental health and disability services, with a focus on both residential and community-based crisis interventions. Students will provide support to children, adults, and families, while working closely with licensed mental health professionals. Practicums/Internships are available in other Easterseals programs as well. This level of practicum/internship is typically 100 to 300 hours over the course of one semester, though length varies by school.
Key Responsibilities:
Within the Brain Health Department:
- Assist in providing individual and group support within residential and community settings
- Participate in therapy sessions, including crisis intervention and brief therapy
- Support therapists with assessments and intervention planning
- Engage in care coordination tasks with families
- Gain exposure to a range of mental health services, including Multisystemic Therapy (MST), Outpatient Therapy, and Crisis Stabilization Services
Requirements:
- Enrollment in an accredited MSW or Counseling program; or Enrollment in an educational program requiring an internship
- Interest in mental health, crisis intervention, and/or disability services
- Easterseals is able to work with students who require flexible hours, including weekends if needed
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
