Title: Flagger/Laborer
Department: Pala Raceway
Salary: Hourly
Status: Part-time (Friday-Tuesday 8:45AM – 2:30PM, schedule subject to change)
Supervisors: Track Manager, Lead Flagger
Subordinates: None
POSITION SUMMARY
The Raceway Flagger/Laborer position watches for any issues on the track that might be a danger or cause an accident. The Flagger/Laborer will keep tracks free from debris. The Flagger/Laborer will be the first to notify and report any accident to the EMT and Lead Flagger. This position also assists with Raceway maintenance, which includes physical labor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Flagger
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Responsible for flagging any accidents on the tracks.
- Responsible for notifying EMT over the radio if an accident occurs on the tracks.
- Water the tracks to reduce dust.
- Responsible for spotting any rocks or debris on the tracks and removing them to prevent accidents.
- Perform other related duties as directed by the Track Manager and Lead Flagger.
Laborer
- Assist with other track maintenance duties such as weed control, hose repair, digging for water line leaks, painting, and cleaning.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Remove weeds throughout the entire venue, including keeping the main entrance clean from weeds, trash, and debris that has washed down the driveway.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of bleachers and grandstands.
- Ensure the pavilion areas are clean and presentable to patrons by removing dirt and debris.
- Maintain all trash can service daily by removing full bags and replace with clean bags.
- Responsible for trash pick-up along track fences
- During downtime, the employee will be expected to help the other positions at the raceway.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of basic track skills
- Attentive to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety
- Staying alert; concentrate on your area of responsibility
- Protect yourself; not putting yourself in danger
- Position yourself accordingly to be visible to riders and other flaggers
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees, vendors, and contractors
- Ability to endure extremes in temperature or harsh weather conditions
- Ability to use 2-way radio
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to carry at least 30 pounds
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend and climb ladders without restrictions
- Ability to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 or older.
- A minimum of one year of outdoor laborer experience is preferred.
- Must be able to work the required schedule and overtime for events.
- Must be able to endure extremes in temperature or harsh weather conditions.
- Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing (including marijuana).
- Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a drug-free workplace as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians.
