MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I

DIVISION: Parks Area Maintenance
PAY: GRADE 120: $43,489.03 - $63,059.09 Annual Salary ($20.91 - $30.32 Hourly).
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Full-Time , 40 Hours Weekly, Eligible for Benefits
GENERAL PURPOSE
This position performs a variety of semi-skilled duties involved in the planning, care, and maintenance of major park and recreational facilities and performs specialized projects as required. Receives general supervision from the Parks Area Maintenance Supervisor and direct functional supervision from the Parks Area Maintenance Crew Leader. Will be responsible for the Weber County Community Service Workers periodically and will carry out rules and policies associated with this program. Also, may serve as a field foreman over up to six crew members.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Take special care to schedule/coordinate maintenance with plant needs and other scheduled functions/activities.
- Assist with major and minor irrigation repairs as necessary.
- Design, maintain, install, and enhance plant beds, turf areas, and sports fields.
- Maintain parks, grounds, facilities, municipal gardens, amphitheater, trails, and other locations throughout the park system.
- Monitor and maintain water features.
- Identify, order, receive, install, and maintain all related materials.
- To perform a variety of semi-skilled duties involved in the planning, care, and maintenance of major park and recreational facilities.
- Ability to use a computer or electronic device to aid in job functions.
- Assist in a variety of facilities maintenance duties including maintaining park buildings, installing, and maintaining fencing, repairing park benches, leveling the base paths on the baseball fields, and clearing debris from the parking lots and other areas.
- Participate in and conduct a variety of park maintenance duties including plant maintenance and landscape duties including trimming and removing trees and shrubs, pulling weeds, mowing, and edging lawns, preparing for, and laying sod, raking recreation areas, watering plants and trees, sweeping, and clearing fallen trees from the public paths and walkways.
- Inspect Park facilities and remove possible hazards to ensure safety.
- Prepare documentation regarding safety checks.
- Inspect and operate a variety of tools and equipment including power tools, dump trucks, lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers and blowers.
- Perform general maintenance duties including refueling, changing oil, and lubricating parts; make minor adjustments a necessary.
- Maintain and clean bathrooms, pavilions, and grounds including minor repairs of broken fixtures.
- Paint as required.
- Prepare facilities for reservations; interact with patrons, citizens, and employees in a professional courteous manner.
- Assist with set-up, take-down, and running of special events.
- Pick up litter from grounds and empty trash containers throughout assigned parks.
- Assist with the construction and refurbishing of various structures.
- Patrol and inspect parks to ensure the safety of the public and park facilities, note possible safety hazards or causes of injury and contact appropriate law enforcement or emergency agency as required.
- Perform snow and ice control/removal with shovels, plows, blowers, and spreaders.
- Prepare appropriate reports and documentation.
- Prepare and apply a variety of pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers and other pest and disease eradication and control chemicals as necessary.
- Perform special projects as assigned; perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Assist with cemetery maintenance.
- Operate a variety of machinery including mowers, trimmers, edgers, tractors, backhoe, skid steer, etc.
- Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employee is required to communicate in-person with the public during office hours; and employee is required to use on-site equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of or ability to obtain within 150 days a Utah State Class A CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a Utah State Pesticide Applicators License with approved endorsement within 6 months of hire.
- Employees will be required to complete NIMS IS100 and IS700 within six months of hire.
