GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE VICTIM SERVICES COORDINATOR
This position assists victims and witnesses of crimes by assessing needs, providing information, and making and providing appropriate referrals and services. The position also acts as a liaison for victims between law enforcement, prosecution, the court, and other agencies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THE VICTIM SERVICES COORDINATOR
- Provide crisis intervention for victims of crimes; provide needs assessment from information obtained through client intake documentation, client interview, and information gathered in the initial background histories; evaluate needs and make appropriate referrals.
- Assist victims in obtaining protective orders; assist in filing victim reparation forms, victim impact statements, medical release forms, and other documentation pertinent to cases.
- Follow up on all assigned cases.
- Attend appropriate court proceedings to support victims; make necessary arrangements for non-English speaking participants; accommodate hearing impaired and other disabilities; monitor court activity; inform victim/witness of court dates and any changes thereto.
- Recruit volunteers for the victim services program; schedule volunteers' shifts and assignments.
- Develop and conduct volunteer training; develop forms and necessary documents.
- Manage assigned cases of victims and witnesses including detailed documentation and appropriate statistical database information.
- Write and maintain VOCA grants.
- Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employee is required to communicate in-person with the public during office hours; and employee is required to use on-site equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- At least two years of experience in criminal justice, social work, and court processes.
- Equivalent to an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a related field.
- An equivalent combination of the above stated work experience and education is acceptable.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Utah driver's license.
- Employee will be required to complete NIMS IS100, IS200, IS700 and IS800 within one year of hire.
