This is a bond funded opportunity subject to the availability of bond funds.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Bond Construction Inspector for roofing and general construction is responsible for inspecting construction work performed by contractor(s) and ensures the work and end product complies with project construction specifications, quality assurance, construction code, timely completion and accurate documentation of bond construction projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification Requirements
- • High school graduate or G.E. D. equivalent
• Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record; must meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility
• Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by employee
Special Knowledge and Skills
- • The ability to read and understand all manners of roofing drawings, shop drawings, and specifications;
• Experience and knowledge of commercial roofing systems required;
• Possess strong organizational skills and flexibility to quickly change from one task to another;
• Demonstrated familiarity and adherence to job site construction practices and OSHA construction safety requirements;
• Considerable knowledge of architectural or engineering, construction principles, practices, construction contracts, and procedures;
• Experience in reviewing AIA document G702 Application and Certification for Payment;
• Experience in the construction management techniques and associated documentation, such as AIA Change Orders documents, Substantial Completion Certificates, etc.;
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills both oral and written
• Demonstrated ability to write concise and comprehensive reports of findings, documentation of site conditions, recommendation for actions, etc.
Experience:
- Five (5) years of experience in commercial construction and contract administration (school facility construction preferred).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

- Observes and inspects work in progress to ensure that methods, materials used, and procedures followed are in conformance with specifications, codes, standards, and prepares written field reports documenting construction activities, and progress.
- Conducts inspections of building facades to access existing conditions and to determine if the work is adhering to the construction documents. Inspections include but not limited to: water infiltration, cladding anchorage, and structural
- Coordinates with campus facilities and operations when utility outages, noise control, traffic control or security are required by the work. Attend pre-outage planning meetings.
- Monitors project close-out procedures, including O&M manuals, as-built, punch lists, and warranty walk-through.

- Participates as the District’s representative in formal progress and/or final acceptance inspections. In this role, notes deviations for inclusion in discrepancy (punch) list and validates similar observations by users, project engineer/architect.
- Ensures conformance of construction to design documents, time schedules, and District standards.
- Provides guidance and assistance when problems arise on the jobsite(s), such as contract irregularities, design deficiencies, coordination with users or other interest groups, complaints, and makes recommendations to administration for items needing further determination or approval.
- Prepares construction cost estimates for proposed projects and modifications to contracts or scope of work.
- Coordinates construction activities with Campus administration and staff to ensure conformance with campus activity schedules and ongoing education program requirements.
- Works extended work hours and/or work weeks to include district-wide travel as required throughout the year.
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of personnel rules, regulations, and practices.
