Position Summary
Tahoma Construction Services (TCS), a general contracting subsidiary of Puyallup Tribal Enterprises, is looking for a motivated general laborer to join our dynamic and growing team. The ideal candidate will have experience working on commercial and multi-family jobsites and takes great pride in their work. Reliability, strong communication skills, adherence to safety, and a desire to learn is necessary for the position. Prior experience with Tribal and/or government projects is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform tasks involving physical labor at building and civil construction sites
- Display high level of teamwork, integrity, commitment, and leadership in daily operations
- Review jobsite needs with superintendents to fully comprehend scopes of work per plans and specifications to complete job assignment
- Perform physical labor to assist with jobsite clean-up, rough carpentry, site logistics, fencing, deck and platform building, protection systems, construction waste areas, and additional job assignments as directed
- Inventory supplies and give supply orders to superintendent for re-stocking
- Participate in daily Pre-Task Plans, follow safety expectations for operation of equipment and tools, select appropriate equipment for performing work, adhere to safety protocols to perform work, and wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
- Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones
- Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications
- Operate forklift and/or skid loader
- Fuel equipment on-site
- Ensure Trade employees, subcontractors, and vendors comply with TCS standards, safety codes, regulations, and jobsite security
- Operate hand and power tools of various types
- Fully understand work instructions, project signage, and safety instructions from tool and equipment manufacturers and prepare and inspect tools prior use to ensure safe and working condition
- Perform selected demolition
- Participate in activities of subcontractors and suppliers
- Review project perimeter for security and cleanliness daily, participate in end of day clean-up activities
- Manage dumpster vendor schedule and maintain dumpster areas for cleanliness and organization
- Ensure security of equipment and work area while conducting operations
- Identify, communicate, and escalate problems and issues to supervisor for immediate resolution.
- Track production of completed tasks
- Assist other craft workers in their trades as directed
- Identify opportunities for improvements, identify potential areas of risk, and share information with key stakeholders to maximize results throughout TCS
- Focus on delivering on company initiatives, especially regarding Tribal jobs programs and Tribal Member training and development
- Use all company resources efficiently to promote maximum financial results for TCS; maintain TCS equipment and assets to maximize return on investment
- Establish and maintain effective business relationships with all employees, vendors, business partners, government/regulatory entities, and communities in which we operate
- Strictly follow workplace safety measures; safeguard the welfare of all employees, guests, visitors, and business partners at all times; promptly report workplace risks, incidents, injuries, and near misses
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all sensitive and proprietary business information, and safeguard TCS assets at all times
Requirements
Minimum
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid WA driver's license, insurance, and good driving record
- Minimum of 1 year of general construction industry experience required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Proficient knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction or repair of buildings or other structures, foundations, and framing
- Ability to understand, and interpret construction contract documents, drawings (e.g., shop, structural, blueprints, sketches, and/or building plans), specifications, scopes of work, vendor tags, and project schedule to determine dimensions and materials to execute work activities
- Knowledge of machines and tools for uses, repair, maintenance
- Proficient use of related tools to complete work assignments
- Knowledge of and able to apply arithmetic and basic geometry to work tasks
- Ability to measure, read, and convey lengths with ruler or tape with high degree of accuracy
- Able to think critically and use good judgment to solve problems
- Ability to take direction, work independently with minimal supervision, and in team environment
- Ability to apply active listening skills, ask clarifying questions, and complete assignments as directed
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills in English and ability to effectively engage with all levels of teams, clients, business partners, and management
- Reliable transportation required
- Ability to travel for work assignments using various modes (e.g., automobile, train, air) and accommodate night and weekend work as needed
- Ability to pass background check
Preferred
- Previous or current experience working as a general laborer on commercial or multi-family construction projects
- Experience with Tribal and/or government projects
