About the Job
The City of Ottawa Golf Course is currently recruiting for a General Manager/Head Golf Professional. responsible for the overall management and operation of the Ottawa Golf Course, ensuring smooth day-to-day functions while maintaining a high standard of customer service and satisfaction. This role includes supervising staff, overseeing administrative functions, maintaining the grounds, and managing budgets. The General Manager also plays a critical role in marketing the golf course, organizing events, and developing programs that enhance the customer experience and promote the facility’s services.

Essential Job Functions:
- Staff Management: Provide leadership in hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising clubhouse and maintenance staff. Ensure all employees perform their duties efficiently and contribute to the facility’s operations.
- Golf Operations Management:
- Manage all aspects of the golf course’s practice areas, driving range, and golf car services.
- Develop and promote programs such as, but not limited to, golf leagues including junior, twilight, and senior, family golf, and educational programming.
- Organize successful golf tournaments in collaboration with businesses and charitable institutions.
- Engage with patrons by participating in rounds of golf and offering professional services to enhance their experience.
- Financial Management:
- Prepare and manage the course's annual budget, ensuring revenue and expenses are monitored daily, weekly, monthly, and annually in accordance with City practice and policy.
- Develop long-term business and capital plans and adjust strategies as necessary based on financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with all financial procedures, including audits, inventory control, cash management, and safeguarding assets.
- Compliance and Policy Development:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and operational strategies to ensure the facility runs efficiently and aligns with the City’s overall mission.
- Customer Service and Public Relations:
- Foster positive relationships with patrons and the local community by offering high-quality services and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Communicate regularly with stakeholders and the City regarding the course's operations and performance.
- Golf Course and Facility Maintenance:
- Oversee the maintenance of all physical assets, including golf carts, equipment, and grounds, ensuring the highest standards for playability and aesthetics.
- Golf Programs and Player Development:
- Administer the Rules of Golf and provide educational opportunities to staff and players.
- Develop and implement player development programs using PGA Playbooks and resources.
- Oversee the golf handicap program and ensure accurate record-keeping for all customer transactions.
Ancillary Job Functions:
- Community Engagement:
- Act as a representative of the City in interacting with individual citizens, community groups, and businesses. Participate in local events and activities to enhance the golf course’s visibility and reputation.
- Policy Adherence:
- Comply with all City ordinances, policies, and relevant state and federal laws. Assist other departments as needed, contributing to the overall success of municipal operations.
Education and Experience: (Combination of education, training, and experience will be considered)
- PGA Certification: The candidate must hold or actively be pursuing a PGA Certification. Experience as a Head Golf Professional or assistant is required.
- Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in a leadership role within golf course operations is required.
- Licenses: Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Education: A high school diploma or GED is mandatory. The candidate must also actively maintain PGA of America membership in good standing, or pursue this if they are a PGA Apprentice.
- Additional Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of golf rules, course operations, and tournament management.
- Strong organizational, planning, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in business communication and computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet tools.

- Management Expertise: The candidate must be skilled in modern management practices and have experience overseeing golf course operations.
- Golf Knowledge: Strong knowledge of the game, rules, and customer engagement strategies is essential.

- Decision-Making: The ability to make high-level decisions quickly and effectively, particularly in stressful or complex situations, is essential.
- Public Relations: Strong public relations skills are necessary to build and maintain effective relationships and promote the course.
- Multitasking and Prioritization: The candidate must have the ability to organize tasks efficiently, handle multiple responsibilities at once, and work under general supervision.

Work Environment:
- Work in a general office environment with moderate noise levels. The role requires regular interaction with staff, patrons, and City officials. While office-based, it involves significant time on the course overseeing operations and interacting with players and staff.
