Job Description
The General Manager will oversee all operations within a high-volume logistics warehouse, ensuring the efficient and effective management of inventory, shipping, and staff. This role requires strong leadership, a deep understanding of logistics and supply chain processes, and a commitment to maintaining high safety and operational standards.
You will lead a team of 50, manage P&L, and be responsible for delivering on key performance metrics such as on-time shipments, warehouse efficiency, and inventory accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Manage a team of warehouse staff, including supervisors and hourly employees, ensuring clear communication of goals, expectations, and daily tasks.
- P&L Management: Oversee the financial health of the warehouse by managing budgets, controlling costs, and ensuring profit goals are met.
- Inventory Control: Ensure accurate tracking of stock levels and minimize shrinkage by implementing strong inventory control processes.
- Shipping and Receiving: Manage daily inbound and outbound shipments, coordinating with suppliers and carriers to ensure timely delivery of goods.
- Safety and Compliance: Uphold strict safety standards, conduct regular safety audits, and ensure compliance with all OSHA regulations.
- Process Optimization: Continuously review and improve warehouse processes to drive efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Staff Training and Development: Recruit, train, and develop warehouse employees, fostering a positive work environment and promoting growth opportunities within the team.
- Performance Reporting: Provide daily, weekly, and monthly performance updates to senior management, highlighting key metrics such as order fulfillment, cost per shipment, and employee productivity.
Daily/Weekly Tasks
- Lead daily team meetings to assign tasks and review performance.
- Monitor warehouse operations, ensuring that incoming and outgoing shipments are processed correctly and on time.
- Conduct regular inventory audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with company standards.
- Review and analyze P&L statements, identifying areas for improvement or cost-saving opportunities.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as procurement and customer service, to ensure a smooth flow of goods and information.
- Conduct safety checks and enforce safety protocols across all shifts.
- Handle employee scheduling, performance reviews, and conflict resolution.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions to prevent future disruptions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience in logistics, supply chain management, or warehouse operations.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and guide staff.
- Knowledge of inventory management systems and warehouse management software.
- Solid understanding of P&L management and financial acumen.
- Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Preferred Background
- Experience managing large teams (50+ employees) in a warehouse or distribution center.
- Familiarity with ERP or WMS systems such as Microsoft Dynamics or SAP.
- Experience in consumer goods or big-box retail logistics.
