Hive Bakery & Cafe, a subsidiary of Hive Collective, is pleased to announce their opening for dinners in Fall 2024! As part of the expansion, we are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic General Manager to provide leadership and instill the Hive value of Collaboration Over Competition across the Bakery & Cafe.
Job Overview:
The General Manager for Hive Bakery & Cafe is a leadership role that is responsible for working as part of a collaborative management team with the goal of developing and operating a profitable restaurant. The General Manager ensures a high quality of food, service, and ambiance while fostering an environment that encourages creativity, free thinking, and intelligent decision-making. The General Manager is responsible for guest advocacy and team culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Development:
- Developing a cohesive and collaborative team.
- Managing hiring systems and hiring for the Hive Collective culture.
- Conducting performance reviews.
- Providing feedback, coaching, mentoring, and development for employees.
- Establishing clear communication lines across the team and other Hive businesses.
- Developing and executing training programs for employees and managers.
- Continuously assessing training programs and developing action plans for improvement.
- Identifying staff for promotions and creating career development opportunities.
- Minimizing employee turnover.
Financial Management:
- Managing financial metrics such as labor cost, productivity, food costs, margin adherence, equipment repair, and inventory cost.
- Developing action plans to maximize profit and sales, and ensuring the restaurant meets financial goals.
- Monitoring cost control centers and implementing cost-saving initiatives.
- Analyzing profit and loss statements and developing corresponding action plans.
Guest Experience & Quality Management:
- Increasing guest counts and developing a loyal customer base.
- Fostering a high-quality, “wow” guest experience.
- Maintaining an active presence in the dining room and gathering guest feedback.
- Canvasing and booking private events inclusive of, but not limited to; planning menus, quoting food and beverage minimums, executing guest requests, scheduling and coordinating events with Hive Collective teams.
- Running pre-shift meetings and attending management meetings to ensure consistent communication of operational standards and goals.
- Overseeing all aspects of purchasing and ensuring standards for quality of product, service, and hospitality are adhered to.
- Maintaining a safe and clean environment.
Operations:
- Ensuring the restaurant operates at or above company standards in food, service, hospitality, training, security, safety, cleanliness, and sanitation.
- Conducting inventories and maintaining accurate inventory records.
- Determining appropriate staffing levels across seasonality; Managing FOH scheduling and approving time off.
- Maintaining accurate employee files with thorough documentation of disciplinary incidents.
- Documenting all incidents and investigations.
- Ensuring proper communication between management and staff; Maintaining open communication and a collaborative environment.
- Following and enforcing all company policies.
- Protecting company assets through accurate cash handling and safe work practices.
- Maintaining standards for cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.
- Proficient in POS system functions and producing accurate financial and operational reports. Providing daily walk through of restaurant to determine areas with need attention or repair and communicating to the CEO and/or property management teams.
- Providing menu maintenance and executing local marketing plans.
- Keeping staff informed on marketing efforts and utilizing promotional materials effectively.

Requirements:
What Your Background / Experience Should Look Like:
- At least 21 years old
- State license/certification to serve alcohol and understand state/local liquor laws
- Meet all standards for safe food handling
- Professional communication and social skills
- Ability to stand and walk during 8-10 hour shifts
- Understand hazards such as cuts, burns, slips, trips, and falls
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Evidence of organizational skills with attention to detail, creating team processes and positive culture
- Eagerness and ability to learn quickly
- Flexible with scheduling (evenings, weekends, holidays)
- Prior experience with Toast and Sling is preferred, but not required.
