About the Job
We are seeking a General Orthopedic Surgeon to join our team at a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital (CAH) located in beautiful Livingston, Montana. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive orthopedic care to adult and pediatric patients in a rural health setting. Responsibilities include direct patient care in the outpatient Rural Health Clinic (RHC), surgical care in the operating room, and on-call obligations for the hospital with Level IV Trauma designation. The surgeon will participate in quality assurance programs, quarterly trauma reviews, peer review processes, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements. The position also entails involvement in administrative tasks, utilization review activities, and attendance at clinic, department, and hospital meetings as required by Livingston HealthCare Medical Staff Bylaws.
Surgical Services consists of modern facilities built in 2015, with recent renovations and expansion. Founded in 1955, Livingston HealthCare has provided exceptional care to Park County and surrounding communities. A not-for-profit organization, Livingston HealthCare is governed by a board of directors populated by community volunteers.
Schedule:
- 1.0FTE
- 36 patient facing hours, including 8 hours per week in the OR
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide comprehensive orthopedic care services to adults and school aged children.
- On-call Critical Access Hospital orthopedic coverage includes 15 (fifteen) 24-hour shifts per month, with half being primary call and half as backup to the Orthopedic Physician Assistant.
- Admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to adult patients and school aged children to correct or treat conditions, illnesses and injuries of the extremities, spine, and associated structures by medical, surgical, and physical means.
- Be proficient in core orthopedic surgical procedures.
- Collaborate with on site PT, OT, and Radiology support.
- Provide care to patients sustaining trauma in our Level IV trauma center.
- Provide support to promote disease control and quality of life.
- Offer patient-centered education and counseling on various orthopedic injuries, empowering patients to make informed decisions about their healthcare.
- Participate actively in Livingston HealthCare’s quality assurance programs to maintain and enhance the standard of care.
- Engage in the peer review process to contribute to ongoing professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with annual education requirements and regulatory standards.
- Complete all required administrative tasks, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of provided services for billing purposes.
QUALIFICATIONS (Required):
- Valid state medical license to practice in Montana or ability to obtain licensure
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
- Board certification or eligibility in Orthopedic Surgery.
- Ability to demonstrate performance of at least 100 general orthopedic procedures during the past 12 months or demonstrate successful completion of a hospital- affiliated accredited residency, special clinical fellowship, or research.
- DEA registration and other necessary certifications for practice.
- Strong commitment to collaboration with primary care team, hospitalist service, and other specialists.
- Excellent communication, community leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
