Highlights:
Position Title: General Service Worker
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87102
Work Schedule: 6:00am 2:30pm with a 30 min lunch Monday through Friday
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Participate in maintenance and cleaning of City buildings and facilities including janitorial and minor repair tasks; perform set-up and take-down of displays and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
- Perform cleaning and routine maintenance of City facilities including general custodial tasks and minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.
- Perform general janitorial and custodial duties; sweep, mop, and buff floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; clean windows and mirrors; clean restrooms, meeting rooms, ballrooms and exhibit halls.
- Set-up and break down meeting rooms, ballrooms, exhibit halls, classrooms, voting poll sites and other rooms required for facility rentals and special events; provide assistance to rental clients, visitors and staff; answer questions, give directions and assist in any way possible.
- Clean and maintain all City parking facilities; repair broken gates on ticket machines; clean oil spills; replace light bulbs; paint directional arrows, numbers, and reflector stripes; direct traffic in parking structures for special events; sweep, pick-up trash and clean parking lots prior to and after events.
- Maintain City building and facility grounds; water plants and lawns, trim shrubs, plant trees, program irrigation system controllers and maintain interior gardens.
- Conduct or assist in general maintenance and light construction activities both indoors and outside; tape drywall and paint interior and exterior walls using rollers and brushes; install conduit, electrical cable, vehicle loop detectors and traffic signal poles.
- Assist the public by offering directions and information at City sponsored special events; explain various programs, sign up participants, accept monies and issue receipts.
- Assist in heavy road construction; build forms, pour and finish concrete for sidewalks.
- Maintain sports field, tennis courts and stadium grounds; mow, aerate, top dress and fertilize playing fields; prepare baseball and soccer fields for games by painting foul lines; paint and clean tennis courts.
- Operate fork-lifts; load and unload semi-trucks; operate City vehicles for clients as needed.
- Pick-up and deliver equipment and materials.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.

- High school diploma or GED
- One (1) year general maintenance, light construction/repair or general custodial work experience preferred.
- General facilities maintenance tasks including minor plumbing, woodworking, and electrical methods and techniques.
- Methods and techniques of general construction including carpentry and cement-finishing tasks.
- Methods and techniques of general janitorial and custodial work
- Methods and techniques of park equipment repair and remodeling
- Practices and procedures related to the maintenance of athletic playing fields.
- Operational characteristics of building-maintenance equipment, vehicles, and tools
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
- Independently perform a variety of routine facilities-maintenance work including minor repairs, light construction and general custodial tasks
- Assist the public by offering information, directions and other help.
- Perform set up and break down of rooms for rental and special events.
- Operate a variety of facilities-maintenance equipment, vehicles and tools in a safe and effective manner.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Communicate clearly and concisely.
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
- Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
- May be required to work weekends/holidays/odd days off/shift work.
