About the Job
The Geology Internship provides the opportunity for the individual to learn and become familiar with the mining and aggregate industry. The Geology Intern is responsible for supporting the Mine Planning and Geology team by compiling GIS data, field investigations, and archiving historic maps. A mentor will be assigned to the Intern and will remain with the Intern for the duration of the internship. The Intern will be responsible for learning and adhering to required safety protocols within each assignment.
Essential Functions
- Geology Modeling (20%)
- Compile GIS and geological data in Micromine software.
- Build simple geological models under the supervision of the mentor.
- Exploration Drill Program Development (30%)
- Continue work of 2023 Intern to scope areas of interest based on current drill spacing and property position.
- Budget projects and determine appropriate timeline for each.
- Transfer work from Carlson software into Micromine.
- Field Mapping and Sampling (25%)
- Assist Geologists in field mapping and sampling.
- Assist in geological logging during active drill programs (if any).
- Interpret geochemical and qualitative results.
- Line of Mine Report (15%)
- Assist in generating background information for Life of Mine Reports.
- Cross-functional Tours (10%)
- Based on the intern's interests, spend time with other departments (Environmental, Operations, etc.) to gain understanding of the complexity of the aggregate industry.
- Other Functions
- May perform other duties as assigned.
- Inventory of drill core and storage locations.
- Scan historic maps and documents for digital storage.
Qualifications
- Must be actively enrolled in degree program in geology, engineering, environmental sciences, or related field.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Carlson, or other engineering or mapping software preferred, but not required.
- Must have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Must possess strong attention to detail, good organizational skills with the ability to ensure accurate work.
- Ability to work independently but as part of a team concept.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
