ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s MetroDC (Washington, DC and Tysons, VA) office is seeking a Geomatics Survey Crew Chief to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Direct, perform and assist the activities of a survey crew in the performance of reality capture surveys using terrestrial, aerial (UAS/drone) and other mobile methodologies to collect and process laser scanning/LiDAR data to support digital twin generation of the built environment.
- Additionally, direct, assist and perform related Control surveys, Boundary/ALTA surveys, Topographic surveys, Construction and post construction surveys, and transportation-related surveys.
- Maintain proper care of survey equipment
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements.
- Maintain documentation of all phases of survey work
- Perform public records research
- Use public records in execution of survey field work
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in reading, understanding, and evaluating the significance of survey, right-of-way, engineering, and architectural drawings with respect to each survey project
- Proficient in operation of laser scanners, UAS/drones, and other related technologies
- Proficient in operation of total station with electronic data collecting capability
- Proficient in operation of GPS equipment
- Proficient in operation of auto level equipment
- Proficient in field survey methods and techniques
- Ability to perform tasks independently and to assign and review work of others
- Possess excellent communication skills
- Proficient in fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
- Motivated to lead and mentor others
- Desire for continued growth in the Land Surveying profession
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive professional land surveying experience
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying/Engineering or related field helpful, but not required
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience with REVIT, NavVis and other related reality capture platforms desirable, but not required
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D highly desirable
- Experience with Microstation, Inroads and OpenRoads desirable, but not required
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) desirable, but not required
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be willing to travel and stay overnight for assignments outside local area (anticipated to be less than 15% of assignments)
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position, located in Washington, DC is $34/hr-$42/hr. The final compensation is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
