GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for the development and management of department programs in accordance with department/medical center policies, local/state and national codes. Responsible for maintaining a sanitary and safe work environment for employees, patients and visitors. Coordinates work functions with other departments and outside resources as needed ensuring daily work requirements are carried out through individual or cooperative efforts.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates the work of Environmental Services staff on a 24-hour basis; transfers, promotes and disciplines employees in accordance with Medical Center policies and procedures.
3. *Provides support, guidance and counseling to staff to ensure compliance with facility sanitation and safety requirements and policies.
4. *Develops and implements area orientation and training for staff; assesses, recommends and coordinates staff development needs.
5. *Communicates and interfaces with Medical Center personnel, medical staff, patients, families and outside resources in order to accomplish work objectives.
6. Operates applicable Medical Center equipment.
7. *Prepares and maintains department’s policies, procedures and protocols in Net-It-Center libraries; evaluates current procedures and practices for accomplishing department objectives; develops and implements improved procedures and practices when appropriate.
8. Monitors department quality assurance activities and submits reports as scheduled.
9. Develops expertise through in-service training and continuing education.
10. *Coordinates department activities through delegation and empowerment of supervisors, instructors, team leaders and staff.
11. *Reviews and analyzes reports, records and directives and confers with supervisors to obtain data required for planning department activities, such as new commitments, status of work in progress and problems encountered; prepares reports and records on department activities for management.
12. *Assigns or delegates responsibility for specified work or functional activities and disseminates plans to supervisors and staff.
13. Sets deadlines to ensure timely completion of work
14. Coordinates activities of department with related activities of other departments to ensure efficiency and economy.
15. Designates employees according to work functions, activities or area assigned; gives work directions, resolves problems and prepares work schedules.
16. *Establishes and maintains the department’s budget; monitors expenditures and responds to budgetary variances.
17. Enters restricted access areas, without supervision, to perform assigned work.
18. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
19. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
20. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel management.
2. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws governing environmental services.
3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
4. Knowledge of environmental service and linen applications.
5. Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
6. Knowledge of quality improvement, budgetary and financial methods and practices.
7. Skill in managing interpersonal relationships, including listening, negotiation and delivering verbal and written communications.
8. Skill in standardizing methods, processes and procedures.
9. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments.
11. Ability to foster positive team collaboration and work dynamics.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible supervisory or management experience required. Prior work experience in a health care or hospital environment preferred.
