Overview
Reporting to the Environmental Products Trader in the Trading Group, the principal role of the Global Net Zero Originator is to develop client relationships that lead to sales of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), Renewable Natural Gas Certificates (RNG), Carbon Offsets and Emissions Certificates.
The Global Net Zero Originator is responsible for developing commercial relationships, promoting the services offered by SmartestEnergy US (SEUS) and maintaining a pipeline of active interests.
The team is responsible for effective risk management of all environmental products (for example: Voluntary and Compliance RECs, Carbon allowances, Emissions compliance Carbon offsets and other relevant certificate-based traded commodities in North America) associated with transactions carried out by SmartestEnergy US’s (SEUS) Retail Sales Team and Wholesale Origination Team.
The Commercial Group is located at Marubeni’s New York City office. A hybrid work arrangement is in place with an expectation of being in the office 3 days a week.
In this role, you will be involved with the following:
- Expanding US sales volumes of Scope 1-3 solutions to large buyers
- Sourcing Environmental Commodities from wholesale suppliers at competitive prices
- Running, maintaining and analyzing the forward deal pipeline in our Customer Relationships Manager (CRM) tool
- Managing and supporting the tenders with the wholesale trading team
- Providing on-time pricing to wholesale counterparties and take the lead to resolve operational issues
- Onboarding new direct trading and wholesale counterparties
- Participating in industry networks while contributing to SEUS thought leadership
- Responsible for coordinating and managing events like customer meetings and conferences bringing professionalism to SEUS’s representation at these functions.
To be successful in this role, you are likely to have the following skills/experience:
- 1-3 years in U.S. energy or commodity markets as a trade analyst, sales trader, or similar role
- Working knowledge of environmental products and the programs through which they trade
- Deep understanding of environmental product market participants and their purchasing requirements
- Understanding of building viable sales funnel
- Strong communicator, able to clearly and concisely articulate complex subjects both written and verbally
- Ability to influence and collaborate with wide range of customers and partners
- Self-starter and desire to take responsibility
- Problem solving skills/logical thinking and decision-making abilities
- Ability to work under pressure, and demonstrates quick thinking
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and strict deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to build relationships and balance conflicting viewpoints
