Summary
This "Associate GOES ACS, GNC, PROP Subsystems Engineer" position with ASRC Federal Data Networks Corporation (DNC) on the Engineering and Mission Operations Support Services VI (EMOSS-VI) contract will support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Office of Satellite and Product Operations (OSPO) client based at the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, MD. This position will report to the EMOSS-VI Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) constellation lead. This position will perform Attitude Control Subsystem (ACS), Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) subsystem, and Propulsion (PROP) subsystem operation in support of the GOES-N series and GOES-R series satellite constellations.
ACS and GNC activities include determining the attitude of the spacecraft, determining the position of the spacecraft, determining the location of desired targets such as the Sun and Earth nadir, providing attitude control to orient the spacecraft for normal operation, communication, providing for and controlling delta-V maneuvers and station-keeping, and managing momentum of the spacecraft. PROP activities provide the means for reaction wheel momentum management, attitude control, station-keeping, relocation, decommissioning, and the velocity change at apogee required for final injection into geostationary orbit
Position requires application of knowledge and skills to wide areas such as: space and ground segment system engineering, real-time on-orbit operations, spacecraft command/control, command procedure development, space systems communications, software test/command script development, training and engineering tool development. Candidate must possess excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Verify nominal daily flight and ground system operation and performance
- Perform real time troubleshooting and analysis during anomalies, including real-time problem identification and resolution, support in case of any in-orbit anomaly and participate in the investigation of ground system anomalies.
- Propose new or execute improvements to tools that will increase long term reliability, monitoring, and anomaly detection capability.
- Develop and improve ground system products used to command, control, communicate and monitor the spacecraft and ground system.
- Support various ground system software testing and verifications.
- Participate in integration and system testing of NOAA equipment.
- Participate in reviews and design Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs)
- Perform training of NOAA operations control center personnel
- Provision of 24/7 on-call contingency support to real-time operations.
- Preparation of regular reports and liaison with internal and external personnel.
Simulations Operations Engineer Duties:
- Planning and scheduling use of GOES-R series simulators for the teams
- Day to day configuration of multiple simulators used for the on-orbit satellite test environment.
- Serving as point of contact and providing on-site and telephone support.
- Execute standard operation procedures and startup scripts to configure the simulators as needed for varying operational configurations.
- Engage with flight operations and ground engineers to ensure knowledge transfer between simulator needs and flight-like operations limitations.
- Perform operations maintenance activities on all simulators to ensure highest availability to users.
- Report, Test, Track, and Close problems that are found during testing.
- Write technical documentation in the form of Simulator Operational Procedures, Reference Documentation, and other Configuration Management controlled information.
