We are looking for a Graduate Assistant to work in our Fitzwater Center assisting with Programming and Student Media.
Job Summary:
The graduate assistant is expected to work with the Director of the Fitzwater Center to develop a work schedule that meets the needs of the Center while still respecting the graduate assistant’s educational schedule. This graduate assistantship provides extensive support for the Ravens Sports Network and Fitzwater Productions livestreaming for the NE10 Now Network. This means extensive evening and weekend hours consistent with the athletic scheduling. Additionally, there will be periods—such as for special events like Commencement, the Fitzwater Center Honors, and during The Presidency and The Press summer program—that extended hours will be required, including the possibility of supervising minors in the dorms overnight. This position is also required to be on-site in the radio station during emergencies—such as during weather emergencies or when the governor has declared a state of emergency--to serve as a liaison with Rindge Emergency Services and ensure compliance with the EAS system; the graduate assistant should be prepared to stay in the Center for the duration.
This staff member must be accepted into any of the Franklin Pierce Master Degree Programs prior to being selected as a Graduate Assistant.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Being on-site, 24/7 if necessary, during EAS emergencies to ensure compliance;
- Assisting with development and implementation of Fitzwater Center programming, including speaker’s series, workshops, special events, productions, community and media engagement, including with NHPBS and the Granite State News Collaborative.
- Assisting with the Pierce Media Group units.
- Provide technology training and support for constituents.
- Assisting in covering published facility hours;
- Driving University vehicles—both vans and shuttle buses—to meet programming needs;
- Representing the Center and the University in a positive and professional manner;
- Contributing to the overall success of the Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication by performing all other essential duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Candidate must be a full-time graduate student in a graduate program at the University.
- Hold a baccalaureate degree in an appropriate discipline.
- Must demonstrate competencies in the skills needed to fulfill the duties of the position.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and be immediately insurable to drive University vehicles, both vans and shuttles.
- Be cleared for work with minors in an educational setting by the New Hampshire Department of Safety.
- Be able to work in a professional manner with internal and external audiences.
- Be able to represent the Center and the University to internal and external audiences in a professional manner.
- Must have an understanding the demands of operating in a mass media world and a commitment to working within those demands.
- Must have a passion for the mission of the Center and the University.
This is a 2-year position determined by program of study. Compensation includes a stipend and graduate tuition waiver.
