General Summary of Position
The primary responsibility of a Graduate Program Specialist (GPS), Department of Graduate Student Services and Admission,is to provide comprehensive advising services to graduate students enrolled in Concordia's graduate programs. The GPS provides a wide range of services that include, but are not limited to: information dissemination both through written modes and at orientations; provides the admission committee with information to review, make decisions and recommend admission of applicants; presents information regarding financial aid; monitors student progress from semester to semester; disseminates information regarding critical dates; assists students in continued registration processes; provides preliminary information regarding purpose and registration for internships and application processes/deadlines.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
-Monitors student progress from recruitment through matriculation and continue to graduation; regularly communicate with students from the time they enroll in a cohort group through to graduation.
-Participates in Cohort Orientation sessions as requested.
-Disseminates and explains information regarding admissions, enrollment, payment, registration, financial aid, testbook purchasing, IT services, institutional deadlines and monitor progress toward same.
-Oversees registration for practicum/interships and ast as liaison with appropriate faculty and staff.
-Assists in obtaining transfer credit and provides substitution coursework as necessary.
-Communicates course deficiencies, updates program plans. Meets with academic program coordinator.
-Keeps current in all academic course requiements with other departments.
Communicates effectively to all students in all cohort locations (travel to Chicago and suburbs required).
Requirements:
-Bachelors degree, Masters preferred
-1 Year experience working with adult learners; 1 year advising or student personnel experience with knowledge of curriculum structure
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated planning abilitites and ability to multitask.
-Strong customer service skills
-Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products
-Must be willing to travel locally,valid driver's license, functioning automobile for transportation to and from off-site campus sites
-Must be available to workevenings and some Saturdays.
