SummaryThe Department of Psychology at Iowa State University seeks a Graduate Student Services Specialist II to support the administration of our graduate programs. This role involves managing graduate assistantship appointments, addressing international student visa concerns, and providing guidance on Graduate College policies. The specialist will assist with graduate student onboarding, academic progress tracking, and qualifying exams, while also supporting admissions processes and organizing events such as new student orientations. This role also serves as the first point of contact for visitors and callers to the Department of Psychology main office and occasionally provides administrative tasks such as copying exams, reserving rooms, distributing mail, and maintaining department rosters. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret university policies will be key to your success in this role.Example of Duties• Counsels and advises prospective students on how to apply for graduate program admission.
• Assists with new student orientation, annual review of progress, and graduate program committee.
• Acts as a resource regarding deadlines, policies, forms, and progress toward degree completion.• Provides transactional support for graduate assistantship appointments and student visas.
• Gathers and interprets data for specialized reports.• Facilitates recruitment efforts, such as prospective student visiting days.
• Provide administrative support for research studies, student rosters, and qualifying exam sessions.
• Greets office visitors and handles routine office tasks, such as photocopying, room scheduling, and reporting building maintenance issues.Level Guidelines• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity.• Provides guidance to students
