The Grant Accountant is responsible for the financial management, reporting, and compliance of the organization’s grants. This position will ensure that all financial transactions related to grants are accurately recorded, monitored, and reported in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including grantors, auditors, and management.
- Reconcile grant-related accounts and ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded and reported.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual audit and provide documentation and explanations as needed.
- Develop and manage grant budgets in collaboration with program staff.
- Maintain accurate records of all grant agreements and amendments.
- Coordinate with program managers to ensure that grant objectives are met, and that all necessary financial documentation is maintained.
- Manage the grant closeout process, ensuring all financial obligations are met and final reports are submitted.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices in grant accounting and management.
- Serve as a resource for program staff on financial matters related to grants.
Job Requirements
Knowledge of/Skill/Ability to:
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
• Ability to communicate processes and procedures required of PI/PD in grant administration and management.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, to anticipate information needs of faculty and staff related to grants, and to respond to new situations.
• Must possess a high level of accuracy and be detail oriented.
• Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Ability to learn new software and technologies quickly.
• Strong analytical, research and mathematical aptitude
• Knowledge of general principals of accounting, financial reporting; knowledge of Federal grant accounting standards.
License/Certification
None
Education and/or Experience
EDUCATION:
Essential: Minimum associate accounting degree, courses in grant administration and accounting.
Desirable: Bachelor’s degree
EXPERIENCE:
Essential: 3 to 5 years accounting, grant administration, budget management or related experience. Must be an advanced user with Microsoft Word and Excel.
