Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Grant Accounting Specialist to join our client's team on a contract basis. The Grant Accounting Specialist will be responsible for the fiscal oversight of the Head Start and Early Head Start programs, ensuring that all financial operations comply with GAAP, Uniform Administrative Requirements, and Cost Principles. This role is crucial in managing grant funds, preparing accurate financial reports, and ensuring compliance with all grant requirements. The position is based onsite in Los Angeles, CA, five days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the fiscal management and reporting of Head Start and Early Head Start grants, ensuring adherence to GAAP, Uniform Administrative Requirements, and Cost Principles.
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports, including budget vs. actuals, cash flow projections, and variance analyses.
- Monitor and track expenditures, ensuring they align with grant budgets and program objectives.
- Manage cost allocation and budgeting processes, ensuring proper allocation of funds and resources.
- Utilize intermediate Excel functions such as vlookup, sumif, and linking to analyze financial data and generate reports.
- Create and build report templates within computerized accounting systems, ensuring accurate and efficient financial reporting.
- Support the preparation and submission of financial reports to grantors, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Assist in the preparation of grant budgets and amendments, working closely with program staff to align financial planning with program goals.
- Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for all grant-related financial activities.
- Support audit preparation and respond to audit findings related to grant-funded programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in grant accounting, non-profit accounting, or financial management, with a focus on federal grants.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, Uniform Administrative Requirements, and Cost Principles.
- Proficiency in computerized accounting systems, including report creation and template building.
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel, including functions like vlookup, sumif, and linking.
- Working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications.
- Preferred experience with Blackbaud Finance Edge NXT or similar accounting software.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
