Description
•The person filling this position will collect data and information to assess the capacity of the health care sector to serve newcomer populations.
•Create an assessment tool to collect data and information from health care providers about their capacity to provide treatment to newcomer populations. “Newcomer populations” is defined as those people who are newly arrived in Rhode Island with one of the many immigration statuses (e.g., Refugee, Temporary Protected Status, Humanitarian Parolees, Asylees, Asylum-Seekers) and those without status.
•Work with the team who are updating an inventory of health care in the state to gain data and information from the inventory project relevant to this Health Systems Capacity Project.
•Distribute the assessment tool to health care providers in Rhode Island and collect the data and information returned.
•Using research of comparable approaches, consultation with RIDOH, and interviews with providers known to be expert in treating newcomers, develop a tool to assess the capacity of health care providers to treat newcomers.
•Research and choose a digital database platform that can be used in collecting data and information from healthcare providers and in analyzing that data.
•Use the tool to assess as many health care providers as possible through July 2025.
•Meet regularly and as needed with department staff to report progress and to plan action steps.
•From the data and information gained, draft a document identifying strengths and gaps in the health care landscape in Rhode Island.
Working remotely but able to meet in person with the department staff and people and organizations necessary to achieve the goals of the position.
