Responsibilities:
What you'll be challenged to do:
TranSystems’ Chicago offices have an immediate opening for a Sales Director, to evaluate transportation consulting services opportunities throughout Great Lake West area and work to position TranSystems within this market. The right candidate should be someone who is enthusiastic and passionate about the transportation services consulting market.
Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):
- Work with Market Sector leaders and Regional Senior Vice President to development and meet Pipeline, Wins and Sales annual budgets
- Create a business plan that focuses on Markets, Clients, Disciplines (planning, traffic, road, rail, bridge, transit, transportation architecture, environmental, etc.)
- Lead area in all aspects of business development through involvement in Client Service Teams (CST), Sales, client relationships, creativity, initiative, enthusiasm, and communication
- Provide guidance and support where needed to ensure CSTs are delivering on expectations
- Individually, and with staff, meet with clients to gather information on upcoming or existing opportunities
- Work with BD staff to update information on current opportunities (monthly at a minimum)
- Provide guidance and support where needed for proposals/RFQ’s and Go/No-Go decisions.
- Lead (directly, or thru delegation) strategy development for major pursuits with TranSystems as prime consultant
- Lead (directly, or thru delegation) teaming arrangements for pursuits with TranSystems as a subconsultant
- Lead (directly, or thru delegation) post-selection evaluation of proposals from TranSystems and others, to develop lessons learned to be applied on current and future pursuits
- Identify new markets/clients
- Identify new services we can provide to existing clients
- Be active as a “face of TranSystems” in the marketplace
- Lead development of the next generation of TranSystems staff in marketplace activities
- Foster an All-In Approach environment for the completion of Sales and BD documents and activities
- Participate in Operational budget preparations
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelor’s degree in an area related to company’s business with a minimum of 10 years of successful management experience in a transportation related professional services field.
- Strong understanding of the transportation consulting services market and accompanying relationships.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions.
- Treats people with respect; works with integrity and ethically.
- Is consistently at work and on time; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives at meetings and appointments on time.
- Approaches others in a tactful manner; reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; accepts responsibility for own actions; follows through on commitments.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Able and willing to travel through the State of Illinois and adjacent states.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

Work Environment:
- The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc.).
Physical Requirements:
- Physically capable of performing field work including working at heights, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, etc.
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a vehicle. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
