WHAT YOUR ROLE ENTAILS AND HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE
The Designer in Greetings is responsible for exploring, concepting, and developing and creating innovative and highly crafted greeting card solutions from concept to manufacturing hand off. Designers in Greetings demonstrate an excellent understanding of designing with illustration, photography, and lettering, while displaying an awareness of and passion for current design trends. We are looking for a talent who has a high lettering proficiency, not just for type and fonts, but also for hand lettering and manipulated fonts. The ideal candidate for this role must also demonstrate a comfort with learning new dimensional formats to support ongoing card format innovation, such a papercraft, paper mechanics, and technology. Finally, hybrid illustration skills are beneficial, as drawing, sketching, and digital manipulation of creative assets will be needed. The ideal candidate will be a strong problem solver and idea generator. They will demonstrate solid workflow and technical skills, and they must be comfortable with ambiguity. Daily collaboration with design and editorial partners, and other members of the creative team is required. The designer will also partner with other disciplines within Hallmark (such as cost, quality, engineering, etc.) to develop concepts into final product.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
+ Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years of professional work experience
+ Experience using Adobe CS programs (Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Portfolio images that demonstrate strong conceptual skills, a strong design skill set, trend-focused color palettes, excellent aesthetic judgment, tasteful and diverse font selection/use, warmth and/or emotion.
+ Portfolio images that demonstrate illustration skills and/or strong use of illustrations as a part of final design solutions.
+ Portfolio images that demonstrate hand-drawn lettering, innovative typographic solutions, or hand-drawn fonts as part of strong design solutions.
+ Portfolio images that demonstrate any additional creative and/or technical skills (interactive design skills, 3D design skills, concept sketching skills, etc.)
+ Bachelor's Degree
+ Minimum of 3 years of professional design experience (firm, agency or independent contractor)
+ Strong Leadership Skills, great work ethic and passion for the product and team environment
+ Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
+ Strong organizational skills
