Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities:What We’re Looking For:
Iridium is seeking a Ground Station Technician to join our Satellite Tracking Ground Station team. As a Ground Station Technician, you will contribute to the routine maintenance and analysis of Radio Frequency (RF), Electronic, and Mechanical systems and subsystems. In this role, you will focus primarily on retrieving and analyzing data logs from computer platforms and network-based UNIX servers to generate statistical reports that gauge the performance of the ground station in Alaska, as well as provide remote support and analysis to our other ground stations located globally. You’ll bring a keen attention to detail, analytical skills, and an enthusiastic attitude.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide support in removing and replacing failed or suspect equipment on the Antennas and Racks
- Independently conduct routine visual inspections of facilities equipment (UPS, Generator) and log findings
- Complete antenna RF uplink data collection for calibrations
- Be responsible for daily system checks for satellite tracking antenna systems
- Complete System Log collection and production of the raw data for statistical analysis
- Assist with monthly Preventative Maintenance on the Antenna Tracking Pedestals
- Assist with snow removal from the antenna radomes, as needed
- Complete daily log entries for the ground station activities performed, weather conditions, visitors, etc.
- Maintain day-to-day operations of facilities, including monitoring the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas, such as offices, conference rooms, parking lots and outdoor recreation spaces
- Assist in the evaluation of maintenance/repair needs and help determine if/when third party expertise is needed
- Provide support directing 3rd party contractors in maintaining the physical plant and infrastructure including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and maintenance related to the building esthetics and functionality
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor's degree in any Engineering discipline OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree
- 2-4 years of relevant experience in the RF communications field
- Must be able to read and follow technical bulletins and manuals
- Possess strong analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communications skills, and the ability to work within a team at a fast pace to meet schedules
- Capable of exercising good judgement and discretion when resolving issues, making recommendations, responding to questions, etc.
- Must be an active listener who can take general instruction on a new task and run with it
- Possess a keen eye for detail and accuracy
- Be time-oriented, organized, reliable, and diligent
- Exhibit a professional demeanor toward others and use feedback as motivation to always keep improving
Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:
- Prior military experience within this field
- Willingness to travel if needed to support other company initiatives

- Provide “on call” support, as needed
- Be able to read and interpret schematic diagrams
- Basic knowledge of Radio Frequencies (RF) communications and principals
- Basic working knowledge of electronic lab test equipment
- Spectrum Analyzer

- Oscilloscope
- Basic knowledge of Radio Frequencies (RF) communications and principals
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Must be comfortable working at heights on and off a ladder
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
Work Environment:
This position primarily works in the company office. The position can be sedentary, at times sitting in a chair and working with a computer. At times, this role will require climbing up ladders to access and work on the antenna system to remove, replace, and maintain equipment and/or hardware and/or may require the use of power and hand tools. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For in person meetings, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office, and climb stairs on occasion.
