Statement of Purpose
Maintains and cares for hospital grounds/other properties and performs general maintenance duties.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for all North Country Health Systems grounds, landscaping around buildings and seasonal maintenance. This includes cutting grass, seeding, raking, trimming, pruning, snow removal, salting, roof shoveling, etc. as required.
- Required to have proper security training and acts as member of the hospital security team.
- Responds to all hospital codes when needed.
- Responsible for keeping the groundskeeper’s shop clean, clutter-free and stocked with supplies.
- Routinely performs exterior lighting checks to assure that all fixtures are functioning properly and changes lights that are accessible with the use of stepladders. For any light fixture replacement requiring a crane or bucket truck, he/she will notify the facilities manager/ supervisor or hospital electrician to coordinate and schedule outside contracted services.
- Performs daily rounds of hospital grounds including off-site facilities.
- Checks all grounds-related equipment for proper operation before use; makes sure all guards and safety switches are working correctly.
- Removes debris from the loading dock area, maintaining area free of tripping hazards.
- Paints walls, doors, and any grounds-related components.
- Transports and retrieves files from storage as requested.
- Transports recyclables weekly or as needed to/from off-site locations.
- Performs upkeep and seasonal maintenance of helicopter pad as a priority; responsible for ordering and changing windsock, lights or lens as needed.
- Moves office equipment as needed.
- Acquires and delivers supplies to all departments and outlying practices as needed.
- Maintains and repairs all grounds equipment; keeps equipment greased and cleaned.
- Performs or schedules repairs and routine maintenance on hospital truck.
- Maintains and schedules repairs for hospital tractor and mowing equipment.
- Maintains an active log of all repairs to any ground equipment and vehicles.
- Assists in carpentry work, replacing doors, windows, screens, locks, etc.
- Assists electrician, plumber, boiler technician or any facilities personnel as needed.
- Performs basic preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Conducts daily medical gas rounds to various clinical departments replacing/replenishing empty cylinders.
- Maintains and/or replaces signage and parking barriers around the entire campus, e.g. stop signs, handicapped parking etc.
- Must know how to use the hospital computerized building management system and utilize this system to perform daily rounds.
- Required to work weekends and/or off shifts as needed.
- Routinely performs building survey to determine light bulb replacement.
- Adheres to the Standards of Behavior.
Working Conditions
Exposure to high noise area, dust, heat, lifting (50 lbs.) and outside work during summer and winter months. Operates heavy equipment. Frequently exposed to inclement weather, insecticides, herbicides, and rodenticides.
Job Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions; must be able to work independently without direct supervision. One year machinery and equipment operation/maintenance experience required. Three to five years’ experience in commercial or residential landscaping or grounds maintenance preferred.
