Job Summary:
The Hand Bindery Lead is responsible for maintaining a proper balance between the profitability of Printcraft and the achievement of total customer satisfaction. The Hand Bindery Lead works with the sales staff and other hand bindery personnel to insure that all projects are produced to industry standards while staying within budget. The Hand Bindery Lead must work with the Hand Bindery staff so they understand the customer requirements and the cost of meeting those requirements within the company capabilities.
The Hand Bindery Lead is the primary representative of Hand Bindery and must convey to the team a sense of expertise in our printing services and capabilities and serve as a key educator to the hand bindery staff.
The Hand Bindery Lead must set an example by being a positive influence and obey & enforce the guidelines in the employee handbook. Department Leads never allow an unsafe workplace and will ensure all employees follow the established safety instructions. The Hand Bindery Lead will:

Responsibility and Duties:
General and Administrative:
- Communicate effectively with the General Manager, Owner, Sales Team, Production Team and staff to inform and update them regularly to guarantee production objectives and customer objectives are being met.
- Comply with all Printcraft and OSHA safety requirements.
- Follow systems and procedures outlined in company manuals.
- Manage employees daily by delegating duties based on production schedule
- Perform all employee evaluations
- Approve and monitor employees’ hours and overtime
- Manage Temp Agencies hours and timecards
- Set goals for production
- Ensure quality checks are done on all kits and product as the final approval before shipping to the customer
- Participate as a key team player by supporting the operation as needed.
- Approve all timecards and verify they are correct
Production Responsibilities:
- Manage and train all Hand Bindery employees.
- Check the quality of the work coming off of the production line within your department.
- Communicate inefficiencies to the members of your team and the General Manager.
- Educate CSRs on options for improving quality while lowering prices of jobs for presentation to customers.
- Identify mistakes by team members and educate them so the mistake is not repeated.
- Assist in the hiring of new personnel when needed.
- Ensure all employees are properly trained and all training matrix are completed
- Ensure that hand bindery is kept clean and organized.
- Make sure bindery supplies are ordered in advance so projects are not delayed due to lack of supplies.
- Be familiar with all MSDS and provide training to those team members exposed to any hazardous chemicals.
- Schedule team members and have any overtime approved in advance by the General Manager.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
- Maintain proper inventory and spoilage tables to monitor and improve estimating process.
- Research and recommend cost saving potential to management.
Qualifications:
- Experience in all aspects of Hand Bindery
- Enforce all process and procedures with staff
- Familiarity with printing operations.
- Knowledge of cost accounting, printing processes, supplies and purchasing.
- Excellent math and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to understand customer needs and requirements, as they relate to production processes.
- Strong attention to detail, possess a positive attitude, be a problem solver, and the desire to do the job right the first time.
- Must be computer literate and stay current on new technology.
- Able to perform multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to manage multiple staff members – performing multiple tasks.
Working Conditions:
- Standing for prolonged periods of time – up to 8 hours or more per day.
- Frequent lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
- Moderate computer use
- Work area will have florescent lighting and temperature variations.
- Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
- Exposure to ink, chemical fumes and airborne particles such as paper dust and drying powder.
- Fast-paced environment subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity.
