HEAD VOLLEYBALL COACH
The Head Boys Basketball Coach will work under the supervision of the Athletic Director in accordance with Verbum Dei Jesuit’s mission and must understand and appreciate the need for the basketball program to work with other sports as a complement to Academics and Corporate Work Study.

Verbum Dei Jesuit High School is a Jesuit, Catholic high school located in Watts with an enrollment of approximately 320 students. Part of the Cristo Rey Network (CRN), Verbum Dei Jesuit offers young men from supportive families of limited resources a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, integrated with a professional work-study experience, and faith formation that prepares them to graduate from college as men for others who serve their communities and pursue a more just and humane world for all.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Verbum Dei Jesuit High School is seeking a dynamic and passionate Head Volleyball Coach. This position will lead the development and implementation of a competitive volleyball program that aligns with the school's mission of fostering academic excellence, character development, and a strong sense of community among its student-athletes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coaching and Development:
- Develop, implement, and execute practice plans that focus on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Foster an environment of growth and development, emphasizing discipline, hard work, and accountability.
- Create strategies for in-game management and make tactical adjustments as needed.
- Develop conditioning and training programs to ensure student-athletes maintain peak performance levels throughout the season.
- Team Leadership and Culture:
- Model positive behavior and mentor student-athletes in personal development and academic excellence.
- Promote and uphold Verbum Dei's core values of faith, service, and leadership on and off the court.
- Build team unity and a supportive culture that encourages individual and collective growth
- Program Management:
- Coordinate the logistics for team practices, games, and travel.
- Organize team tryouts and ensure fair and competitive evaluations.
- Manage the volleyball program budget, including equipment, uniforms, and team expenses.
- Communicate effectively with parents, administration, and other stakeholders regarding team updates, schedules, and student progress.
- Student-Athlete Success:
- Support student-athletes academically and monitor their progress to ensure eligibility and success in the classroom.
- Build positive relationships with the student-athletes, encouraging them to strive for both athletic and academic excellence.
- Community Engagement:
- Engage with the Verbum Dei community, including students, parents, alumni, and staff, to build support for the volleyball program.
- Foster relationships with local middle schools and club programs to build a pipeline for future student-athletes.
- Prior successful experience coaching volleyball at the high school or college level.
- Strong knowledge of volleyball strategies, rules, and techniques.
- Ability to serve as a role model and mentor to young men.
- Commitment to the values of Catholic education and Jesuit traditions.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
SALARY
$5,000 stipend
