Meeker Middle School serves 7th and 8th grade students. It is a very diverse school of 675 students located in the northeast corner of the Kent School District. The student population is around 60% minority and 60% Free and Reduced Lunch. Meeker has Professional Learning Communities in all curricular areas that meet to discuss student work and common formative assessments as well as Learning Teams that meet weekly to participate in lesson study analysis. The support teams from ELL and Special Education focus on an inclusion model whenever possible. In addition, Meeker offers intervention courses in reading and math to students who need extra support in these areas based upon assessment data. We do offer advanced courses in Social Studies and English for honors students as well as upper level Algebra and Geometry classes for our advanced math students. A strong co-curricular program, including extensive sports, music, and special interest activities is in place, offering students many opportunities. Meeker is fortunate to qualify for the Century 21 grant which affords us the opportunity to run an after school program for two hours a day Monday thru Thursday. The Meeker staff is dedicated to providing students the education they need for their future.

ASSIGNMENT: The purpose of this position is to oversee and coordinate the daily operation of a school or district department/program office, including health room services; to manage the secretarial responsibilities of the administrative support staff; and to act on behalf of administrator(s), when appropriate. The employee independently performs a wide variety of secretarial and administrative support duties for the principal or district administrator and, as designated, for the school or district program/department staff. The employee performs broader office management responsibilities including providing leadership, guidance, training, and workflow coordination for three or more administrative support staff. The essential job duties include the following:
- Provides for the accomplishment of secretarial and clerical work for the department; provides varied secretarial support to the department administrator such as correspondence preparation, file maintenance, calendar scheduling, and records/budget control for the assigned administrator(s); opens, sorts, and screens incoming mail.
- Acts as receptionist, answers telephones, keeps calendar, set up meetings/classes, and makes necessary travel arrangements for department personnel.
- Provides leadership, guidance, training, and workflow coordination for school or district program/department for three or more administrative support staff.
- May provide for the supervision of the services of the health room in accordance with established district procedures, under the direction of the principal and school nurse; administers first aid, when appropriate; administers medication in accordance with district procedures; makes appropriate emergency communications when necessary, including follow-up reports.
- Maintains department personnel records, including attendance, evaluation and training; may be required to keep detailed payroll records on department staff including regular and extra pay time records.
- Produces and/or distributes department communications/publications which may include handbooks, calendars, newsletters, reports, and general public relations information.
- Provides for the accurate accounting, maintenance and reporting of fiscal records, including budget preparation, revenue and expense reconciliation, revolving fund account(s), employee travel records, purchase requisitions and orders; inventory; supplies and equipment; maintenance work orders and repairs; and security and records; prepares annual KCDA supplies and materials order; may be responsible for initiating, processing, and tracing purchase orders and print orders; may be responsible for third party billing of district services; may be responsible for the accurate accounting, maintenance, and reporting of student records, ensuring proper security.
- Assists with the annual budget preparation and prepares annual KCDA supplies and materials order.
- Coordinates and/or directly provides for regular reports to meet local, state, and/or federal requirements which may include, but not be limited to, student, staff, and non-labor data.
- Responds to requests from other departments and schools for information or assistance with distribution of materials and information.

- Oversees the production and/or distribution of school or district program/department publications, including, calendars; building handbooks; school, district, and community newsletter information; and general public relations information.
- Maintains a high degree of confidentiality with regard to all district-related matters and records.
- Provides a friendly, open, safe, and service-oriented atmosphere in the secretarial office area.
- Perform duties that are detail specific to the assigned department.
- May provide input to the administrator, if requested, related to the performance of department clerical support staff.
- Supervise assistants and provides assistance to other staff, as needed.
- May assist administration in interviewing candidates for administrative support positions.
- Provides input to the administration, as requested, related to performance of other administrative support staff.
- Serves as member of the building or program/department support team;
- Maintain all fingerprinting supplies and records. Take fingerprints of school volunteers.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent educational experience; additional related training desirable; or any combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
- Completion of Kent School District’s clerical testing at the administrative assistant V (A) level, with a score of 70% or higher. Contact 253.373.7209 to schedule testing.
- Valid first aid, CPR card, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training and knowledge of modern emergency health-care procedures required for school positions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of general office processes and procedures and the use of a variety of office equipment.
- Knowledge of standard office computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and modern office machines, including copier, FAX, and calculator.
- Ability to learn new operations, procedures, processes, and use of new equipment.
- Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and English usage.
- Ability to maintain timely, accurate, and efficient record keeping, including preparation of reports from office records.
- Ability to organize, set priorities, and work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to exercise sound independent judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters.
- Ability to provide leadership, guidance, direction, training, and workflow coordination to 3 or more other administrative support staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the general public.
- Effective customer service and secretarial skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups.
