ZymoChem recently closed a $21 million Series A round of fundraising to support the launch of our first high-performance material and to advance our first partnered product to commercial scale. Position Summary
We are hiring a dynamic and strategic individual to join our leadership team as Head of Strategic Initiatives. This role is crucial in bridging the gap between our technical innovations and business growth. You will collaborate closely with the CEO to shape the company’s overall strategy by aligning our business goals with technical development, strategic partnerships, grants, intellectual property (IP) management, and investor relations.
Responsibilities
- Lead value creation at the intersection of technical, business, and strategic initiatives to support growth and innovation.
- Leverage fundraising experience, including investor relations and grant acquisitions, to secure resources for strategic projects.
- Cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset to drive business and technical advancements; IP experience is a plus.
- Preferably onsite, with flexibility for remote work and 20-40% travel for business-critical meetings and engagements.
- Work in close collaboration with company leadership at the intersection of business, strategy, and technology to shape and implement company objectives.
- Research and identify grants and funding opportunities that align with the company’s vision and technical innovation.
- Identify, build, and manage key strategic partnerships with industry players, research institutions, and other stakeholders to enhance business opportunities.
- Collaborate with government agencies, venture capitalists, and other stakeholders to secure financial backing for the company’s initiatives.
- Support and enhance communications with investors by providing clear updates on technical progress, strategic initiatives, and business growth opportunities.
- Assist and participate in the management of intellectual property, ensuring alignment with the company’s long-term strategy. Engage with investors to communicate the company's technical roadmap and potential growth areas.
- Leverage your technical background to understand complex scientific concepts and translate them into actionable business strategies. Communicate effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and product teams to ensure product development aligns with market needs and business objectives.
- Potentially build and mentor a team that supports the company’s strategic growth initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in a scientific field is required. MBA, MS, or equivalent advanced degree in a related field is preferred.
- At least 7 years of industry experience building and executing strategies in a scientific or technical environment.
- Previous experience in the biotechnology industry and/or fast-paced startup environment.
- Previous experience as a founder or in a senior leadership role is highly desirable.
- Experience in government grant management and working with investors and partners.
- Intellectual property management experience in the biotechnology field is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in forging strategic partnerships across diverse sectors, including government, investors, and private industry, driving collaboration and growth.
- Bridge technical and business teams with strong communication, thrive in a fast-paced environment and bring an entrepreneurial mindset with sharp problem-solving skills.
- Ability to act proactively, independently, and with a high degree of adaptability.
- Willingness to travel 20-40% of the time.

Full-time opportunities at ZymoChem come with:
- Competitive salary range of $170,000 to $220,000 depending on experience.
- Comprehensive benefits package includes company stock options, 401(k) retirement plan (includes a corporate match), medical, dental, and vision healthcare coverage, and life and long-term disability insurance.
- Additional benefits include FSA, commuter, and supplemental life insurance.
- Flexible time off policy with 18 days Paid Time Off (PTO) per year and 10 paid company holidays per year.
- Relocation assistance may be agreed upon as well.
