What's the role?
The Sr. Manager/Head of Supply Chain will plan and implement the activities of Carl Zeiss X-ray Microscopy associated with system and component production, purchasing, shipping, receiving and logistics as they relate to the timely, cost-effective procurement, inventory control, planning, delivery and quality control. This position will develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and material control systems to reduce cost, streamline procedures and implement solutions. Ensure that materials in the supply chain are available as scheduled and inventory is maintained at minimum acceptable levels. Ensure the continued operations of an effective materials organization at Carl Zeiss X-Ray Microscopy and reduce product cost through optimal utilization of the global procurement market and available strategic ZEISS supply chain (material cost reduction, outsourcing, etc.). This will also include the analysis of the supply chain for risk and implement mitigations to increase resilience of the supply chain overall.

Here's what you'll do:
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs and implements activities related to the timely, cost-effective procurement, inventory control, planning and quality control of production materials
- Ensures the implementation of compliant production processes to insure the on-time delivery of customer orders at the needed quality
- Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures, and material control systems to reduce costs, streamline procedures, and implement solutions
- Ensures the availability of materials in the supply chain, as scheduled, and the maintenance of inventory at minimum acceptable levels
- Responsible for sourcing and supplying raw materials, as well coordinating global procurement efforts
- Coordinates with finance/accounting on matters involving inventory-carrying costs. Reviews and plans requirements for acceptable inventory.
- Establishes and maintains elements of the production control system and provide direction and/or even perform analysis of supplier estimates, including evaluations of proposed direct labor hours, direct material, engineering and manufacturing processes, material requirements, rates and factor reviews, financial risk assessments, and cash flow or ROI analysis
- Contribute in the continuous progress of optimizing the utilization of the global procurement market. Sources internationally working effectively with the MIC Strategic purchasing team globally for production materials, and the ZEISS NPM for non-production materials and services
- Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function
- Supports the SAP Business Process Expert that the correct setup and maintenance of the SAP ERP system along with supporting users to ensure access and reporting needs are met
- Manage other company wide programs as needed (such as working capital, cost improvements and Import/Export Control) to support the strategic plan
- Support ZEISS and Microscopy corporate reporting as needed for inventory and production metrics
- Represent X-ray Microscopy in corporate supply chain programs as needed
Do you qualify?
- BS in Engineering field or MBA in Business Administration, plus at least 10 years of supply chain experience.
- Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a capital equipment environment is a plus
- Proficient in using analysis/estimating techniques and methods
- Accounting and finance understanding, and experience preferred
- Possess well-developed interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills to direct and review the work of direct reports, plan activities within guidelines provided by more advanced levels of management, and conduct management briefings and reviews
- Position requires working knowledge of manufacturing, order administration and warehouse business systems including MRP, master scheduling, production control, purchasing, inventory control, manufacturing, stock rooms, shipping, receiving, traffic, and material handling
- Understanding and familiarity with appropriate regulations for safety such as OSHA, and manufacturing such as ISO 9000
The annual pay range for this position is $161,000 - $201,000
The pay offered for this role may be influenced by factors such as job location, scope of role, qualifications, education, experience, & complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent.
This position is also eligible for a performance bonus or sales commissions. ZEISS also offers robust benefits, including medical plans, retirement savings plan and paid time off.
