About the role:
We are seeking a seasoned and proactive Head of Technical Accounting, who will serve as the primary point of contact on technical accounting matters and financial reporting across Anthropic. This pivotal role demands a seasoned professional who can distill complex financial information for various stakeholders, articulate technical concepts in accessible, non-technical language and provide expert guidance on intricate accounting topics. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience navigating complex technical accounting challenges, a track record of advising senior leadership or clients on multifaceted financial approaches, and building up the financial reporting process from scratch in a high growth environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of accounting policies
- Provide technical accounting guidance to cross-functional teams within the organization
- Develop and maintain documentation for technical accounting positions and conclusions
- Partner with senior leadership to support strategic decision-making and financial planning
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and other international jurisdictions
- Manage various complex accounting issues and ensure compliance with new accounting standards
- Implement systems to support scalable financial reporting processes with automation
- Establish scalable processes and systems to support the company's rapid growth trajectory
You may be a good fit if you:
- Have 12+ years of accounting experience, preferably in public accounting with some experience in publicly traded companies
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and CPA
- Participated in rotations at national office for public accounting
- Experience managing software implementations like Workiva or related tools
- Exhibit strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Possess a keen attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

- Have experience working in a fast-paced startup environment
- Have the ability to meet deadlines without sacrificing the quality of your work product
- Be comfortable with handling ambiguity and working with minimal supervision
- Take the initiative to apply their knowledge of processes and systems and recommend well-considered improvements
- Exhibit knowledge of how to implement a change and good instinct in predicting its effects, and knowledge of how to “get it right” the first time
