Our District:

The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12.  Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.

Our Community:

Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our “backyard” is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains.  Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar.  Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

Job Summary: 

The Head Coach is responsible for the athletic program.  The coach is responsible for the organization and supervision of the program including budgeting, ordering, inventory, player supervision, awards, team rosters, and equipment management.

Essential Job Functions: 

This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.  Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:

• Organize and supervise the program including budgeting, ordering, inventory, player supervision, awards, team rosters, and equipment management.
• Participate in athletic registrations
• Issue and care of sports equipment during and after season
• Compile eligibility lists and other reports
• Perform related duties as assigned

• Working knowledge of specific sport fitness, safety methods, and techniques
• Ability to commit to an athletic program that fosters the self-worth and self-esteem of all participants

Special Requirements:

• Rules Clinic Attendance
• Continuing Education Standards – 30 hours prior to the 3^rd season of coaching for new coaches and 15 hours every three years thereafter
• Successful coaching experience in appropriate sport
• Must have excellent moral character
• Must have excellent organizational and motivational skills
• Valid/current CPR/1^st Aid card maintained for the duration of this job
• Type II Driver’s License or willingness and ability to obtain
• Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
• I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
• Sexual Harassment Training (obtain prior to season starting – district provided)
• Safe Schools trainings (obtain prior to season starting – district provided)

Work Environment: 

Work is typically performed in a gymnasium and outside on a field; requires substantial extra-hours work, travel between sites, stamina and endurance, and physical exertion associated with demonstrating techniques; must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather; may be required to balance, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods; may be exposed to high noise levels and childhood diseases; and may experience a multitude of demands and changing priorities with frequent interruptions.

Evaluation:

The Head Coach shall be evaluated within 30 days of the close of the sports season by the Athletic Director pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria.  The process shall include an evaluation of the employee’s performance of the above essential job functions.

Immigration Reform and Control Act Requirement:

The recommended applicant, if not a current  employee, will be required to complete an INS I-9 form and must provide proof of  employment eligibility.

Disclosure Statement and Background Check

Pursuant to Chapter 43.43, Washington Laws of 1990, the recommended applicant will be required to complete a disclosure form indicating whether he/she has been convicted of crimes against persons listed in the law.  In addition, a background check, based on fingerprints, will be requested from the  Washington State Patrol.
