Gastroenterology Associates, P.A. was founded in 1996 with 2 Physicians and 3 employees. We have grown over the last 28 years to a group with 9 board certified physicians, 6 Mid-level providers and over 90 employees. Our practice is the premier Gastroenterology group in the Hickory metropolitan area, providing care for patients from a multi-county area covering a 50 mile radius. We operate a state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgery Center that has been recognized for outstanding quality by the American Society for Gastroenterology Endoscopy (ASGE). Our ambulatory endoscopy facility is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and each year performs several thousand endoscopy exams safely in a comfortable outpatient setting. In addition to providing excellent outpatient Gastroenterology care, all of our providers are affiliated with Catawba Valley Medical Center and Frye Regional Medical Center, where we provide inpatient services.
Job DescriptionResponsible for preparing and scanning documents into patients medical charts accurately and completely into an EHR. Check charts for appointments ensuring all records are in chart. Obtain records from referring providers and hospitals as needed and/or requested. Faxing records to other entities. Print records as requested for physicians, nurses and patients. Handle all certified mail. Various communications interoffice are handled via task queues and worked daily. In bound and out bound fax queues to be worked and monitored daily. Assist in various other duties in the Health Information Management Department. Responsible for verifying Insurance accuracy and eligibility for upcoming appointments and procedures.
QualificationsThe following are the minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job:
A. Education: High School degree
B. Work Experience: (Preferred) Minimum one year of medical records clerk/health information technician experience, preferably in medical practice setting.
C. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of scanning equipment and computers.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to work in a very fast paced environment
- Ability to read and interpret medical charts
- Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness
- Ability to work under pressure and resolve problems
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to plan, prioritize and complete tasks
- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms
- Ability to interact with people internally and externally
- Knowledge of HIPPA guidelines

Typical Physical Demands:
- Requires continuous interaction with computer terminal.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.

- Requires occasional bending, twisting, squatting and kneeling in office.
