Role:
The Health Information Management (HIM) Technician is the initial point of contact for patients entering or calling the Health Center. The HIM Tech will also perform administrative duties including appointment scheduling, patient medical records processing, and clerical tasks.
Position Requirements:
Experience:
MINIMUM: Up to six months of similar or related experience
PREFERRED: 2+ years of medical records or customer service experience.
Education:
MINIMUM: High School Diploma or GED
PREFERRED: Associate degree or certificate in Business, Science, Health Information Management, or a similar or related field.
Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essentials elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the PBPN for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
Knowledge:
o Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
o Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
o Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
o Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography, and transcription, designing forms, and workplace terminology.
o Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems.
Skills:
o Reading Comprehension-Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
o Active Listening-Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
