Job Summary
Longenecker & Associates (L&A), a woman owned small business, has provided technical and management support to the Nuclear Energy Industry for over 30+ years. We have the immediate need for a Health and Safety Tech IV to contribute to the mission of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). LANL is a multidisciplinary research institution dedicated to enhancing national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to)
The health and safety technician 4 provides support to line managers and facility personnel by assisting health and safety professionals with collection of personnel air samples, swipe and bulk sampling, area sampling, real-time sampling, and inspection of areas or review of operations to ensure compliance with Laboratory and regulatory requirements. This includes those positions in which the primary function is providing technical support associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of potential health and safety hazards, or the manipulation of data associated with those hazards. The H/S Technician may also assist with facilitating implementation of health and safety requirements. Work may include field, laboratory, and/or data management activities. Individual assignments and positions may differ in emphasis. To accomplish this function, considerable skill is usually necessary in related fields, such as mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, industrial hygiene, and health physics.
Health and safety technician 4 is considered a senior skilled level. Incumbent has demonstrated skills and knowledge beyond those expected to be found at level 3. Applies extensive knowledge and skills to complete specialized tasks and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Comprehensive understanding of general and technical aspects of the job. Assignments may be broad or narrowly focused, but usually require contributions of original work. Usually includes some responsibility for coordination and participation in developing the final product working with the requestor. Incumbent develops solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity, creativity, and independence. Contributions are of sufficient value to have some impact on the outcome of the entire group accomplishments. Work is performed without appreciable direction. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective, for desired results. Incumbent exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments, which may be completed without established procedures..
Education and Experience Required
- Position typically requires a high school diploma and four-to-six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including associate' degrees and graduation from technical institutions.
- Ability to obtain a Q level clearance.
- Prior experience with IH and Safety, particularly sampling IH mitigations and understanding PPE.
Initial assignment duration through 12/2024. There is a possibility of extension or conversion. Position will require a 4/10 schedule with on-site work. There is possibility of overtime.
